Help translating an old birth record
Help translating an old birth record
Hello All,
I was trying to post an image of an old birth record that I was hoping to get help with but it keeps saying that the image size is too large. I've reduced it to a pinprick size but it still says that. It's a jpeg so I'm not sure what the problem is! Is there someone that can tell me if perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Or would someone be willing to look at the document if I emailed it to them? I'm just trying to figure out what one of the names on the document is? I see the names of the parents, but then there's a third name listed and I just can't figure out why. I've tried using Google Translate but I still just can't figure out this one thing.
Thanks so much!
Amy Nichols

The size of the image is only 147kb
Re: Help translating an old birth record
Maybe it will work if I post it in sections?
Re: Help translating an old birth record
I'm sorry, but it just won't let me post anymore! How frustrating!

Gennaro Giorgi is the declarant (he was 70 and his labour was farmer).

Re: Help translating an old birth record
Thank you for that translation! So that means he was the father, correct? So he was 70 years old?? Which is slightly confusing, because the information I have is that he was born in 1804, which would have made me about 58 years old at the time of this record, although I guess the record could just be wrong. Thank you so much!! I appreciate the help!!

Re: Help translating an old birth record
Although I really cannot read the document, please keep in mind that the "declarant" is not necessarily always the father.
See this document for help in deciphering these records.

Re: Help translating an old birth record
I believe that in this case the informant is the baby's father as the record reads da esso (the next word may be a dialect word for the word publisher or, in other words, refers to the person who made the announcement of the birth. I also think the informant was 60 and not 70 years old.

amybeth, I suggest that you upload the full image to a hosting system such as Imageshack and publish here the link...
Btw the age of Gennaro Giorgi is 60. (Luca what happened to you?)
please keep in mind that the "declarant" is not necessarily always the father
In this case it - see 2nd image - it is the father (lo stesso è nato da esso dichiarante)

Yes, the age looks more likely 60. The word after "da esso" is not dialect but it's "dichiarante" standing for "declarant". So the declarant was the father.
