Today I received my Italian Citizenship!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Oggi ho ricevuto il riconoscimento di cittadinanza italiana "jure sanguinis"!!!!! Anche i miei genitori, miei fratelli, mia sorella ed i nostri bambini!

Oh I see. I have to wait 15 months just for my appointment. Then there is the period of approval which can be months and the the time getting documents. Ive heard many people say around 3 years total. Anyhow, Im glad it all worked out for you!

Wow, its not like that up here at any of the consulates. You need an appointment with all of them. My consulate is Philly and they are booked solid. I dont mind the wait because I have a lot more documents to collect.

Congrats!! You must be so happy- good for you!

I wish I could do that. My people all came over early and naturalized as soon as they could. If they didn't have that 1948 law with women I could do it from my great-grandmother but as far as I can tell there's no way around it.

There are several ways to attain Italian citizenship, the most onerous being to live legally in Italy for 10 years (during which time you will not be permitted to work or earn an income) and at the end of the ten year period apply for naturalization.

At the other extreme, you merely have to have an Italian parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, etc. Okay, it's a little more complex than that, what with the rules and all. :)

Tell us a little about your situation and we can offer appropriate advice.
