Surname Videtta

I have recently discovered through my great grandfather's naturalization papers what I believe to be his actual surname "Videtta". I am hoping someone out there is familar with this name. I have, thanks to a previous post on this forum found, his manifest which has the name "Videtta" on it.

I am aware through my mom that the name changed at some point to it's current version of "Vedete".

From his naturalization records I discovered his was born in Palermo, Italy, but was married in Pignola, Potenza, Basilicata, Italy. I believe he lived there until coming to America in 1905.

I do have census records for the family, and I have found his obit. I know his mother's name is Maria (Mary). She lived with the family during the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records. I don't know his father's name, however his oldest son is Nicholas, and his oldest daughter's name was Mary ,so it is possible that thy followed traditional naming conventions.

Any help your guidance would be aprreciated. I am thinking of requesting his Scoial Security paperwork . I believe it will list his parent's names.

Hopefully this answers some questions for me! I am hoping his mother's maiden will help me to verify if the manifest for his wife, son and mother is the correct one...I am in denial about it right now....
