Traveling with his were Giuseppe age 8 and Ettore age 7. Their destination was to a cousin on Van Sicklen in Brooklyn, NY by the name of Pietro Loponte. There is no mention of a wife.

Do you know where in the U.S. the family resided? did they remain in NY? That information would be helpful to those of us on this forum who want to help you.

JOSEPH GIOVE 21 Mar 1913 Jun 1978 11421 (Woodhaven, Queens, NY) (none specified) 068-09-8386 New York

You don't say where this family resided in the U.S., but this is a Joseph born the year that your Giuseppe was born, if his age on the passenger list is correct.

above info from the social security card. If him, his application for his ss card would give you both parents' names, if you need that info

I see there is a Mario Giove in the 1930 census for Brooklyn with a wife named Emily. I do not have a subscription to ancestry.com, so someone else on this forum will have to get you the image of that census record.

Giove Martire 60 y Oct 4 1947 19481 Kings

This is the only Giove whose first name starts with the letter M that I see in the NYC death index. This person was born abt 1887. The index only goes to 1948, so he Mario died after that date, he would not be in this index.

There an Emilia La Ponte from Ferrandina who came to this country as a single woman on Dec 24, 1909. She went to a sister in Hartford Conn named Maria. Her father was in Ferrandina and his name was Francesco. Emilia is the Italian version of Emily.

First Name: Emilia
Last Name: LaPonte
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Ferrandina, Potenza, Italy
Date of Arrival: Dec 24, 1909
Age at Arrival: 23y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Prinzess Irene
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0025

Since Mario went to a cousin with the Loponte surname when he arrived, this may very well be his spouse who is on the 1930 census. Since she was single in 1909 though, and the first child was born in 1913, they could have married between 1910 and 1912.

These records will be in Italian, some in old Italian handwriting, and could be difficult to read, but you may have luck trying to rent some records for the years you know. They go from 1809-1929.

municipioferrandina@comune.ferrandina.mt.it

This is an email address for the town hall where the anagrafe or registry office is located in the town. That is the office that would house the birth, marriage and death records for the town. Here is the official website for the town.

http://www.comune.ferrandina.mt.it/sez1107273992

If you decide to email the office, you will need to provide very specific information to them. Otherwise you will not get any information from them. So, if you can say that the marriage took place between the years I mentioned in my previous post, and ask for the names of the parents of both the bride and the groom, you may be able to get that information from that office, even via email.
