luca:

i can email the original to you. every time i try to make the file of the size which can be attached it comes out too small to decipher.

livio:

i agree that it looks like masiello, however i could not find that masiello as a given name. i found some references to it as a cognome though. have you seen used as a given name in other research you have done?

thanks.

Tommaso, when you upload a picture to imageshack it preserves the the original size...

Masiello derives from Tommaso...

Tommaso ---> Tommasiello (diminutive) ---> Masiello

Eodem die (lo stesso giorno)
Io predetto Arciprete fui presente al matrimonio con-
tratto tra Masiello Cappiello et Lucrezia ???
di Morrone precedendone le tre pronunciazioni(???)
nella predetta ecclesia, presenti notaro Donato Rostella, messere(?)
Aniballo De Raimo, messere Francesco Barnaba, messere Camillo
Parise, messere Jo(Giovanni) Battista Di Lionello, ... Picara Ca-
millo ... di Morrone et altri in pace.

:? Ho lasciato troppi punti di sospensione! Vedi tu, Livio, se riesci a completare.

thanks to both of you.

livio, would they typically have used the diminutive form for a person of short stature? or would it have been for the case of a son named after a father (we use junior here)?

tommaso

or perhaps masiello...

Tommaso, I don't know the answer to your question

The diminutive form is often used when the person is a child

Luigi, Luigino, Gino
Carlo, Carletto
Tommaso, Tommasino, Tommasiello

And often this form is kept also when the person is grown up
