Ciofani (Nereo) Information needed.

Post by Ciofani »

I need help in finding out more information on my great (great) grandfather Nereo Ciofani. All I know about him is that he was born Abt 1862 in or around Sant'eusanio Forconese. I think it's here because that's where he was married to a Maria Loreta Santilli (1886). From there they might have gone to Pratola Peligna. I know that they had two sons (Ovidio Ciofani b. 1890 and I dont know the other one). Maria died and then Nereo was re-married. Supposedly to a Baroness. My great grandpa Ovid liked his step-mom, but he came over to America when he was 15 all by himself for some reason.

Anyway - any help would be much appreciated because I'm sort of stuck with Nereo. I've traced the Santilli line far back, but I'm interested in the Ciofani line.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tara,
Welcome to the Forum!

If you're interested in Italian records they can be found in the comune where the event occurred (marriages in the bride's comune)
Are you familiar with FamilySearch (LDS) and their Family History Centers?
They can order microfilm of the civil records for Sant'Eusanio Forconese from 1809 to 1910 for you to view at your local center.

Do you need any help with US records?

Thank you,
Valarie

Hi Valarie...thanks so much for all the info. I wasn't familiar with the familySearch - so that should be helpful. I am aware of that family site on ancestry.com. I got most of the info on the Santilli side from them! But they didn't have anything new on Nereo or Ovidio (actually they got their info on Ovidio from me Haha).

So if I wanted to find out about marriages/births in Pratola Peligna (if that turns out to be the case) - would I have to contact them directly in Italy for the history or is there somewhere else I could look for something like that?

Again, thanks so much for the quick response. I will try this route and see where that takes me!

Good afternoon:

Nerio Vittorio Ciofani was born in Pratola Peligna on 22 Apr 1861 and was the son of Fedele Giuseppe Ciofani (b. abt 1827) and Elisabetta Carolina Epifanio (b. 29 Dec 1826 in Prezza). The birth record for Nerio contains a marriage notation that Nerio married Filomena DeSantis 31 Oct 1891 - Filomena was possibly a native of Roccacasale. Nerio had two siblings that died in infancy- Francesco (1856-1857) and Maria Elisabetta (1857-1858).

AHNENTAFEL CHART
FIRST GENERATION:
1. Nerio Vittorio Ciofani
SECOND GENERATION:
2. Fedele Giuseppe Ciofani
3. Elisabetta Carolina Epifanio
THIRD GENERATION:
4. Cesidio Ciofani
5. Anna Maria Poladi
6. Francesco Epifanio
7. Concezia DiGiorgio

I found some information on the DeSantis Family:

Baron Giacchino DeSantis married Baronessa Giacinta Mascioli

4 known children probably born in Cocullo and all married in Roccacasale:

1. Gemma DeSantis married 1843 to Paolo DiSimone
2. Giambattista DeSantis married 1853 to Carmela Galli
3. Gianpietro Vincenzo DeSantis married 1853 to Anna Paola Volpe
4. Mariangiola DeSantis married 1856 to Camillo Corti

You guys are amazing!!! I can't believe all the info you have dug up! :) Thank you so much - this is so exciting!!!!!

I've also found a couple of cousins (third cousins...) in Italy via facebook - so all in all this week has been amazing when it comes to the Ciofani genealogy!!!!

Thanks again for all your help!

I just have one question - who were Filomena's parents (does it show on the records). I mean obviously it would have to be either of the two sons but just wondering if it indicated which one....

This is so cool!!!!
