Hi everybody,
Trying to figure out the name of a town on a ship record.
I'm looking for the town for #4, Giuseppe Tufaro.
Thanks!
I tried posting a link to the ancestry page and it didn't work.
He arrived May 1, 1899, born 1871. Maybe you can find it there, I don't know how to put the link up here.
Thanks!
What town is this on this ship record?

Hi !
Here's a link to your manifest
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0004
It's difficult to decipher, but based on the towns before (Monteforte Irpino) and after(Torella dei Lombardi) on the manifest it's probably in Avellino Province Campania: http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/regioni/campania.html
Valarie

Hi Aliza and Valarie
Looks like it may be Canne
This would be in Comune Roccadaspide, Salerno, Campania...

Thanks guys. I'm trying to figure this out because it may be the person I'm looking for. This is for a client whose family is almost impossible to find!
I'm going crazy here and can't even see straight anymore. Thought I'd try to get some fresh eyes.
Thanks for the help.

OMG! Biff83- you just might be right. My client mentioned that he heard his family was from Calabria. This could be my guy.. and hopefully the town I'm looking for.
Many thanks!

Based on the 1899 ship manifest which gives Giuseppe's year of birth about 1871, interesting record from the Cosenza archives.

Leva della Provincia di Cosenza, Enlistment year 1872.Volume number 116,
document number 10 page 74 section a
Giuseppe Tufaro, contadino enlisted on --/--/----
born on 07/09/1871 in CANNA
son/daughter of Leonardo Tufaro and of Angela Lerose
Any Leonardo's or Angela's in your client's tree?

Interesting...he had a son named Leonardo. My client only knows the names though- no birth order. It can be tough when you're working with limited information.
I've seen some other Leonardo Tufaros though that don't seem to be of the same branch. It could be that this was a common given name of the area. I do know that the Tufaro name all comes from one particular area- around Calabria- but even more so just over the border in Potenza, Basilicata.
I'm curious- where do you find this image?
Thanks so much for all the help! I got bombarded with clients all of a sudden. Meanwhile my Uncle's been in intensive care for weeks...I'm working on very little sleep here.
Thanks again.
