Surnames Gregori and Villa

Post by lindarhead »

Hello everyone, first of all let me introduce myself, my name is Linda and I live in England. I am helping a friend research their Italian ancestry. The family names are Gregori and Villa. Luigi Gregori and Marianna Villa. They married around 1892 and then subsequently migrated to New York City,USA. We have their history after that point however it is their Italian ancestors we are struggling with. Luigi was born about 1862 in Groppallo, Emilia-Romagna, Italy , Marianna was born about 1873 in Olmo, Piacenza,Itay. Any help or suggestions to assist in finding their parentage would be brilliant and much appreciated.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Linda

Hello Linda,
Welcome to the Forum!
You can write to the comune/town of origin in Itay to request birth records (no charge). The marriage record should be found in the bride's comune.
Valarie

Groppallo is a frazione (fraction/village) in the comune of Farini, records would be kept in Farini

address:

Comune di Farini
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza G. Marconi 10
29023 Farini PC
ITALY

http://www.tuttitalia.it/emilia-romagna/74-farini/
---

There are several villages named Olmo, one in Piacenza - Olmo list
Olmo, comune of Bettola, province of Piacenza, Emilia Romagna

address

Comune di Bettola
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza C. Colombo 4
29021 Bettola PC
ITALY

http://www.tuttitalia.it/emilia-romagna/64-bettola/

note: not to complicate matters, but the comune of Farini is also known as Farini d'Olmo

Linda,
Here's another thought, you could (also) visit your Family History Center and order microfilm for Farini d'Olmo

Your nearest Family History Center can order records for Farini d'Olmo on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 US month (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.

Valerie, that's brillliant, thank you so much I'm sure I'll find something amogst all those leads you've supplied me with which will help with the search.

I do know of the Family History Centres and we have one about 10 miles away from my home, it's only open on a part-time basis and when I phoned them they said it could take up to three months for them to order and get the records for me. I have to go in to place the order which I'll try to do next week...just a tad difficult as they only open for three hours at a time, three days a week.Anyhow I'll read the article by Trish, and everyhting else you've kindly sent to me.

Much appreciated, Linda..:)
