Maria Rosa Cutrona and Francesco Bressi

Post by Bressi1 »

I was able to get my Grandfather's birth record and as far as I can tell these are his parents. His name was Domenico Bressi and he born on October 28th 1883. He was from Rocella. I believe that he had a brother and two sisters. Any information about any of his family would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!! Her last name may also be Carito??

Hello and Welcome to the forum! :-)

What US records can we help you with?

Do you have Domenico's manifest?

Since you know the comune(town) of your grandfather's birth, and the names of his parents, you can write to Roccella Ionica and request their marriage (atto di matrimoni) record, and their birth records (atti di nasciti).
Francesco's birth record should have a notation about his marriage which will confirm your grandfather's mother's maiden name.

You should write your letter in Italian. Use this link to generate your letter.
http://circolocalabrese.org/resources/l ... civile.asp

Do not send money until/unless requested, but DO send a self-addressed envelope UNSTAMPED along with your request.

Send to:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via XXV Aprile
89047 Roccella Ionica (RC)
ITALY

Naturalization document for Dominick Bressi.

The month is off by a month, but the day and year are correct, as is the immigration date, and though the town of birth is misspelled it is definitely meant to be Roccella Ionica.

Thank you so much!! Vincenzo I believe was his cousin that came with him.. I was hoping to find the names of his brothers and/or sisters. I'm not sure how to even start looking for that.

You can visit your nearest LDS (Mormon) Family History Center to view the microfilms for the comune. They have records from 1809-1910 for Roccella Ionica that you can rent for about $6 for the month.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... +Roccela+J++

They have the microfilm machines at the center for you to view. The records are in Italian, which we can translate here.

To locate your nearest FHC use this link and insert your zip code at the bottom of the page.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

A look at what the records (birth = nati; marriage = matrimoni; banns of marriage = pubblicazioni; death = morti) look like...to familiarize yourself...

Hello, I recently have been doing some family research and stumbled upon this post. My Great Great Grandfather's name was Nicola Bressi. He married a "Marie Bressi" / "Maria Bressi". They had many children. Their names were: Cosimo, Damien, Mary (or Tessie), Francis, Joseph, George, and Paul. They lived in Brooklyn New York. My mother recognized the address that you said Domenico visited. I think my family lived there at that time, which might mean that we're related. Do any of these names sound familiar? If so, would you by any chance know Nicola's mother/father's names? I can't track the family beyond Nicola. All help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
