I would like to get my Grandfathers birth certificate from Italy. Being new at this I dont know where to start. I have his birth date and the town he was from. Can someone offer me some help and direction.

Welcome! If you already know the town then you're over what is for many the biggest hurdle in Italian genealogy. In Italy, you pretty much need to know the exact town or things can be tough.

Let us know the town and province name and the date and we'll tell you what records are available. (These are available on microfilm but different towns have diff. records for diff. time periods).

Giovanni Riccio from the City of Castelfranco in Miscano, Campania Region. Province Benevento. He was born in approximately 1884. His fathers name was Leonardo Riccio and his Mother was Maria Consulata. He also had two brothers. Matteo and Anthony. Thanks for the help

Any correspondence with the town should be in Italian. If you decide to send a letter via regular mail, include a self-addressed envelope with no stamp on it. Do not include money. If the town requires money for record copies, they will let you know the cost.

The Mormons have microfilmed records for the town but only for the years 1809-1860

I would also suggest that when you are on the website www.familysearch.org
you search the surname and look at the entries in the IGI. There are a lot of people with the Riccio surname entered there from your town. Some may prove to be connected to your ancestry.

Yep. The town's records only go to 1860. Bummer!

If you want to get his birth record you'll have to write to Italy. But if you want to trace your tree back further you might be able to do that with what you've got since you have the parents' names. The parents probably meet the cut-off.
