My Great-Grandfather, Vito Antonio Sammartino came to the United States between 1898-1900. He married a woman, who I believe is from Ruoti, Italy. Her name was either Vincenza Pizzo or Pizzuti. There is a record of a Vincenza Pizzuti arriving in 1900 on the ship California to meet her husband Vito Ant. Sammartino in Jersey City, 337 Rail Road Ave. I believe that this is her. I'd like to confirm that and begin searching back from there.
For some reason, Vincenza changed her name to Jennie here in the States.

SantomR,
considering that your ancestors were coming from Ruoti, I noticed that now Ancestry.com has databases on.line about the Potenza Province... Ruoti is in this province... I don't have the full subscription to these italian databases but maybe you or other members should be able to check the Ruoti's civil registrations for you...
I believe there must be the marriage act for Vitantonio and Vincenza approx on 1898 and also their first daughter Rosa Maria Sammartino's birth act on 1900...
Good luck!

Is there some connection between the Semertine and Sammartino families Laura?

Re: Vito Antonio Sammartino and Vincenza Pizzuti or Pizzo
In Italy, one nickname for Vincenza is Cenza, spoken (in dialect) with a "g" sound like "Genza". "Genza" and "Jennie" are not too far apart phonetically, which might explain why your Great Grandmother Vincenza was called Jennie in America. This is also the reason why so many men named Vincenzo (nickname "Cenz", spoken "Genz) were called James in America. For some reason, Vincenza changed her name to Jennie here in the States.

Ah yes, Google - where would we be without it?! Quick search turned up some interesting photos - even a few specific to Boiano. Thanks, Tessa.
