translation of birth records

Post by k8landers »

Can someone please translate these for me? One of the history center volunteers usually helps me but she isn't available until next week. Teresa is either my great grandmother, or a sister of the same name born before her - because I know that Gaetano DiLoreto and Celeste Paolini are her parents. Domonicantonio was #25 in the registry while Teresa was #26 - but I can't tell if they are brother and sister or cousins?

These were uploaded with photobucket. I hope that they are clear enough to read.

Thanks!

The writing is very blurry.

Teresa was born on 21 February 1880 at 8:20 PM. Father, Gaetano di Loreto (sp?) declared this at the town hall to the mayor at 11:15 Am on 22 Feb 1880, saying that the female baby was born to his wife Celesta (?)...can't read last name...

Domenicantonio's birth was declared at the town hall on 21 Feb 1880 by the midwife, Concetta di ????, 40. He was born on the 20 of Feb to Antonia Misaluna (sp?) wife of Paolo di Loreto (then I can't read the words that follow...not clear)

There is no relationship shown here. They are probably related, but definitely not sister and brother.

I can see now that Celesta's last name is Paolini. It is split between the two lines, and very blurry.

Thank you! I thought that it was very interesting that they were born the same day / one day between with the same last name...

I appreciate your efforts. I went to the history center on a different day than usual and I couldn't remember how to blow it up before saving it. The staff person that was there didn't know how to work the machine.

Glad to help :-)

There are others here who I am sure will take a look at them and fill in the "blanks". They are amazing...

I had 1884 as Teresa's birth year (her marriage bann lists her as 20 in 1903)... This record is from 1880.. If this Teresa passed away prior to 1884 would my great grandmother have been named the same? I know that they do that with sons, but wasn't sure. I have the films to look at, so I can check the morte and nati records up until 1886.

Thanks again!

Very possible that your GGM was named after a deceased sibling. I have seen it many times in the records, both male and female.

Finding the morti, and/or additional nati records would certainly confirm it :-)

Gaetano is 24 and a farm laborer (bracciale) - in the first document which is Teresa's birth.

The second record doesn't have Gaetano mentioned.
The person declaring the birth is the midwife who is 40.

The midwife's name was Concetta di Julio (which looks like it was di Iulio on the record). Records often had an I instead of a J in them or vice versa

about Antonia, wife of Paolo di Loreto-could her surname be Mezaluna-now commonly spelled as Mezzaluna?

I do not know anything about the people in the second record - the first (Teresa) is my GGM's sister who passed before my GGM was born--the records were #s 25 and 26 with the same last name so i was originally trying to see if they were twins
