Re: Testa family
Hi David and welcome to the forum,
Benevento is a province as well as a city. It is important to find a town of birth for Luigi or a more specific date of immigration, age etc to pin him down. There are about 75 Luigi Testas on the Ellis Island data base. Can you give us any more clues to help narrow the search?

Re: Testa family
Hello David,
Where in the US did he settle? Can you provide the names of his wife and children if he married?

Re: Testa family
David,
I have located a manifest that MAY (or MAY NOT) be your grandfather Luigi... However, it has him arriving with his mother and brother in 1905 at age 9. (Would have been born about 1896)
Mother is Vittorina (could have been shortened to Irene) Forte, 27, whose destination is to husband Domenico Testa on Mulberry St., NY.
The brother's name is Pietro, not Vincent; and the sister's name is crossed from the manifest.
Thought it was worth a look...

Re: Testa family
BTW,
Haven't been able to find a village/town called "Soladago" in Benevento.
HAVE found a "Solopaca" in province Benevento...
Was the name of his town of origin passed down verbally, or did you see it written somewhere? And did you see "Lucy" at the end of the town name?

My Grandfather originally settle in North Carolina and then move to Virginia to the Vesta , Stuart area , but change his last name to Mosley.
He came over be his self that we do know and also served in WW1.
His town in Italy probley is Solopaca since we found the word Lucy next to it.
Thanks
Dave

Re: Testa family
Tessa,
I found that same manifest because it was the only one that fit the parameters of the info posted. The names are pretty garbled on Ellis Island. I didn't post it because of the same discrepancies you note. But, I'm glad you posted it so Chappell could see it.
I don't think "Lucy" is part of a town's name. First of all, it is not Italian.
2nd, It would not have come after the province.
I'm glad we know of the name change, because I couldn't find a record of Luigi Testa on a census.

Couldn't find a census for Domenico Testa, either...
Now we can search for Mosley...

Re: Testa family
To VJ
This last set of info is my family , my mother is Mildred born in July 27 1923 and is still alive and well today as well the others on the list except ofr Idell.
But their name was Mosley , must have mistaken the o for a A.
My grandfather was very closed about his family in Italy and was eventually reunited with his brother Vincent who lived in Montreal and Sister Teresa who lived in NY a few yrs before his died
