Dangoia

Post by TiffanyLamkin »

Hi. I am looking for information on the Dangoia family from Cirigliano. My Great Grandfather was Giuseppe (Joseph) Dangoia. He immigrated in 1905 and married my Great Grandmother, Maddalena Laurenzano in 1908 in Manhattan. His brother Giovanni immigrated later in 1905 and his brother Gennaro immigrated in 1911. Between 1912 and 1922, Giuseppe and Maddalena had 6 kids, Angelo (my grandfather), Julia, Filomena, Jenny, Joseph and Maurice. I am unable to find any census record of them, although I do know that they lived in Manhattan. Another Dangoia, Vincenzo, immigrated from Cirigliano in 1903 with his wife Antonia Laurenzano and their children Teresa and Carmina. I believe he was Giuseppe's uncle, but he may have been an older brother. This family settled in Chicago. I am very interested in any information that anyone can provide relating to the Dangoia family. Also interested in determining the relationship between Maddalena and Antonio. Dangoia has been mispelled as D'Angoia, Dongoria, Dangoira, Dongory, etc. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! I'll try that for some of the others. One more question - do you have any idea how I can go about finding out if/how Antonia and Maddalena were related? Both were born in Italy. I know that Maddalena's parents were Maurizio Laurenzano and Filomena Montano, but don't have any information on Antonio's parents. I'm not sure how to go about searching for this info. Thanks.

In 1903 Vincenzo D'Angoia and wife Antonia were joining father-in-law Francesco Laurenzano in Chicago (Antonia's father)

Research into your family records in Cirigliano may eventually sort this out

Thanks again! Cirigliano is fairly small, so hopefully it will not be too difficult to find out the information.

Tiffany,
Vincenzo and Antonia moved to Chicago Heights, IL on 23rd St.
in what was called the "Hungry Hill" a predominantly Italian area of the City. Their son Pasquale, born in the U.S. was my Uncle, married my mother's sister.
If I can help with anything let me know.

Andy
