Terranova from Casteldaccia

Post by tnova »

I am looking to trace my family. My Great Grandfather was born in Casteldaccia in March 1876 and died in Chicago in March of 1963. He married Grace Martivino (I believe). I am also looking for my Family Crest/ Coat of Arms. Any help would be great.

On this site:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/rec ... tml#p=home

there are several births records (with birth certificate images) for children born to Gaetano Terranova and Grazia Martorana/o in Chicago:

Antonino Terranova 2/18/1910
Filippa Terranova 5/7/1912
Giuseppe Terranova 12/19/1913
Peter Terranova 12/25/1921

If this is your family then Grace's maiden name was Grazia Martorana/o

Laura,

Grazie Mille!

Those are my grandfather's siblings. Funny thing, Antonio is still alive. We just celebrated his 100th birthday this February. We have no idea where all of our records have gone so this is an amazing find. Thank you so much. If I can get some more responses like yours, I may be able to put together a good tree for my pre- USA family.

Thanks again,
Bill

Take a look at this manifest. Is it possible Grace had a child from a previous marriage (or am I reading this incorrectly)?

1920 Census for Thomas and Grace Terranova...
First son listed is Joseph Terranova, 18, born in Italy...
Age matches child on manifest (about 1903), but the name is completely different!!!

mj, :-) I think you may be correct. Unfortunately there is no info about how long they've been married on this census...

I'm still looking for Gaetano's manifest. This manifest is from Naples, but gives last residence as Palermo.

Great find Laura

Sounds like child was born out of wedlock and later acknowledged by parents. What do you think?
