The Family of Lucy Bianca Vona.

Post by matusekm_25 »

I am researching my deceased paternal grandmother, whom I never knew. Her name is Lucy Bianca Vona, born 26 JAN 1923 in South Amboy, Middlesex, NJ. She passed 26 APR 1970, if you have any information that is related to this please contact me. I believe her parents name's are Armenio Vona (Father) and Francis Sciallo (Mother); I have birth certificates for the latter, but not the former. They immigrated from Italy, in and around the town of Durrazzano. Lucy was married to Michael Peter Matusek 03 JUL 1949 in NJ. He is my paternal grandfather who was born 21 JUL 1921 in Staford Springs, Connecticut. He past away in 19 NOV 2002 in Winter Park, FL. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

getting a copy of her application for her social security card costs $27, but her parents' names should be on that.

Hi,
Aunt Lucy/Lucia was my father's (John) sister. We lived on different streets but our backyards were adjacent to eachother; we lived on Catherine and Aunt Lucia and Mike Matusek lived on Leffert St in South Amboy, so we were neighbors. I don't remember her well however as she died when I was four years old. Dad never spoke much of how or why she passed

Unfortunately the family was not very close, much unlike what you hear of immigrant families. I can fill you in a little on the family dynamics as Dad (and you grandmother Lucy) were among 14 brothers of sisters. Arminio Vona, your great grandfather, lived to 100 and I attended his birthday when I was around 12 in 1978 (+/-) (exact year eludes me). I'd be happy to put you in touch with my father who is 84 and still lives next door to where aunt Lucy lived; he'd love to tell you about the family. Another person to look up is Father Michael Vona who is pastor of a church near Belmar, NJ. Michael is the youngest of the family and was Dad's and Aunt lucy's little brother.

Thank you all so very much for your information.

@johnnyvona

I never thought that anyone from extended family would come across this page. You don't know how surprised I am to see a response of such detail. I would love to get in touch with my grandmother's siblings. If you were four when she passed away that would make you about 45 years old. Could you possibly send me any contact information? I'd like to email, write, or call to get in touch with ya'll. This is truly exciting! Thank you again for contacting me!!
Looking for surnames: Matusek, Vona, Ericksson (I believe), Gazora. If you have any information please contact me! Thank you!

Hi ,

Im trying to get more info on my grandfather peter vona. The previous posts confirmed his family most lived in south amboy. For some reason my grandfather changed his last name to Warn.
He committed suicide in 1958. He was a taxi driver in new brunswick married to grace manziano. They had two sons richard and peter. Richard was my father..he also suffered from depression as do i.
Just want to know what siblings of my grandfather were still alive and where they are.

The Scialli family is from Durazzano (Province of Benevento) although Hicksville, Long Island and environs has many more families from Durazzano than Durazzano by now. Scialli Plumbing & Heating owner, Vincent Scialli <http://scialli.com/aboutus.asp> is a great contact for your extended family.

Hi All,

I was just searching for my great grandfather and this thread come up. Apparently I signed up on here in 2011, so I had an account, but never came back until now. My great grandfather was Armenio Vona. My grandparents were Anthony (Tony) Vona and Rose. They lived in South Amboy for as long I knew them. I'm the son of Linda and Frank Vona. I was always told my great grandfather was from Naples. Would love to know more from anyone on here if we are related!

I'm 38 and live in NJ.

Hello Donna, This is a little late but I do not want you to be concerned with your grandfathers passing. I am Lucy's granddaughter first born. My mother, Mary. and other relatives inform and passed along to me family dynamics over the years.

There were a few Vona's that had "business" with "families" in the old days. It was considered appropriate to claim suicide rather than put other family members at risk back in the day. This also has to do with the name change you inquired about. Unfortunately, moving and changing his name didn't help great great Uncle Peter. This is all I can respectfully speak upon this at this time. Your grandfather was a good man. Just in those days to make extra money, our people would involve themselves in interesting prospects. It's been over 60 years so I am sure it is safe to discuss. There are also other family members that had similiar side jobs.

There are lot of positive careers as well within our family :)

Please reach out anytime. I am the deed holder to Vona family plots, house deeds, baptism/communion certificates, as well as birth and death certificates passed down - I can help with any questions any future Vona's might have.

Thank you, Lisa Marie

Hello,

I saw your post and believe we may be related.

I am a decedent of Antonio Vona and his wife Caterina Bonajuto from Moschiano. From the research I have done, Antonio was already in NY in 1902 when he sent for Caterina 38, their children Beatrice 9 (my great grand mother) and Augusto age 11. Caterina traveled with her cousin Agnese Bozzetti 15. The ship manifest shows them going to NY, they then moved to Hoboken NJ. Where my great grand mother, and grandmother lived, before moving to Jersey City NJ. I currently live in FL and would love to know if we have any know relatives still in MOschiano? I am planning a trip to Naples next year and would love any info you may have. I have located 5 people in Moschiano with the name of Vona, but they do not reply to the letters I have written.

I am still going thru your posts to figure out how we are related.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Jill
