Need help translating this

Post by jeffyjoe44 »

Can anyone help translate all the names, ages, dates, etc. on the document for us, as well as possibly decipher what is written in the top (right?) corner of record.........something @ Chiaese Manganaro.

Any help would be great. I had to resize this several times. Email me if I can just email you the document directly for best quality. That upper corner is hard to make out.

Thank you, Jeff

The picture is too small...

Giuseppe Chinese? was born in Calascibetta on XXXXX 3, 1885

Father XXXXX Chinese?, mother Giovanna XXXXXX

The annotation is unreadable

The surname is not Chinese. It is Chia_se. It looks like there is a letter before the s on the birth record.

On Ellis Island, there are two passenger lists and the name is spelled as Chiase on one of them.

I can't find either spelling in the current Italian phonebook for the town.

The birth took place on the 3rd of the month, which I think is March. The year looks like 1885.

The record is dated the 4th at 11 a.m.

The father was away from the town and a 60 year old midwife made the announcement of the birth and the presentation at the town hall.

I can't read the notation on the right of the record at all.

I can't tell if there is an age given for Giovanna in the record. After Ilarione's name, it just says that they were both living in this town.

A larger image would clarify all doubts. Chianese, Chinese and Chiaese are all valid entries in the Italian White pages although none of them appear in Calascibetta.

I can clearly see the Chia when I magnify the record in my photo program.

Hey all. Thanks for the feedback.

We know his dob is 3/3/85, we also know the parents' names. We were curious about the upper right corner, which unfortunately shows up as dark on the original film.

I had to downsize the jpeg to upload it here. I am happy to email the full file to you if you are interested. I have other family members. We were told the upper right corner yields the most interesting information.

My email is jeffyjoe44@aol.com

I can email you the fuller files for the family members.

The one I posted on here is Giuseppe Chiaese Managanaro.

Hey everyone, I scanned 2 others. One may be a record for Giuseppe, and I wasn't sure who the other is, possible a niece named Matilda. Thanks in advance for your help.

and a third one is the blown up and heavily contrasted right corner of the first document I sent.
