Pieroni-Giacani

Post by skateawayon »

Looking for information on both of my grandparents. Natalina Giacani and Angelo Pieroni. I believe they were married in Italy before coming to the United States in the early 1900's. I think they were from the Ostra, Marche, Ancona area. Angelo's DOB 7/20/1886. Looking for anything. I have passenger records but want info from Italy. Anyone out in cyberspace have any sccop to share?

Hi and welcome to the forum, :D

Usually the best clues are found on the manifests. I tried to pull Ellis Island manifests for Angelo and Natalina, but couldn't find them. Did they immigrate through another port. Where did they settle? Can you post manifest info?

All Italian records are kept at the comune level. Here is a link to Ostra info..

http://en.comuni-italiani.it/042/035/index.html

The Family History Center does have records for Ostra for that time period.

If you can give us a little more info, we can better help direct your search.

Looking for information on both of my grandparents. Natalina Giacani and Angelo Pieroni. I believe they were married in Italy before coming to the United States in the early 1900's
This 1911 arrival manifest confirms the fact they were married in Italy:

Boston Passenger and Crew Lists, 1820-1943
about Angelo Pieroni Peroni
Name: Angelo Pieroni Peroni
Arrival Date: 4 Apr 1911
Age: 24
Estimated birth year: abt 1887
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Canopic
Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts
Friend's Name: Angelo Procaccini
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Ostra, Italy

page 2:

Angelo was travelling with his wife Natalina and considering that it wasn't the first arrival for Angelo but it was the first arrival for Natalina this may indicate that Angelo came back to Italy just for Marry...
Angelo stated he was leaving his father Raffaele in Ostra.

Laura,

How can you tell that Angelo was in america before and that Natalina wasn't? Can I find information on Rafaelle and his wife? Marriage certs, birth certs etc...
I did find the name Costantino and Elvira Giacani (need maiden name) who I believe may have been Natalina's parents.

Anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I

I can tell this because if you look at the second page of the 1911 arrival manifest:

http://postimage.org/image/1odb5zjac/

you'll see that Angelo stated that he was in the U.S. before, from 1907 to 1910 in Massachusetts, Beverly, while Natalina stated he she wasn't in the U.S. before. It was her first arrival.

Yes, you can contact your nearest Family History center and ask them to rent the microfilms of the Civil registrations of Ostra:

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... m%2F986104

You'll be able to find for first Angelo's birth act, it will show you the names of his parents, their ages, occupations, address....
Then you can search for their marriage act or Angelo's siblings's births..

I am sorry to say that I am just now seeing your post from August 19 of 2014.(My birthday by the way so thank you for the gift : ) I was thrilled to see it! I now have more names to add to the Giacani family. Not sure how they fit but here goes: Natalina Giacani may have had a brother named Paolo, I believe she had sisters too but I do not have names for them. I have a list of first names that may show some relationship. Renato Giacani and Instituto Olandese are somehow connected. His children are Renato, Eleanor, Fabio, Claudia and Laura. There is an Oscar Giacani who may have a son also named Oscar and other children Marchella, Alberto, Anna & Dario. I have found photos marked Luigi, Osvaldo and Miro too. Would love to hear more about them if at all possible. Sincere thanks for everything so far. Ciao!

Yes. Please. Other than what appears above, I do not have a lot of information. I did find that Natalina and Angelo were married on February 24, 1911 in Ostra Italy. I do not know if either of them have siblings although I suspect that they do. I have very little information on the Giacani side other than father's name Cosantino and mother Elvira Monticelli. Whatever you can unearth would be much appreciated.
Thank you
