Biggini, Rapetti from Genova before 1860 to NY

Post by John023 »

Looking for info on Biggini in Liguria-Genova (?) region. Came to US before 1860. Frank (1860), Louis (1865) and Amelia (1867) Biggini born in NY. Parents listed on death certificates listed as Joseph Biggini and Rose Rapetti (1841) both born in Italy. Rose married a Joseph Muzzio in Pittsburgh in 1880's. Don't know what happened to Joseph Biggini. Thanks, John

This is from the 1880 Census Pittsburg, PA:

Name Age
Charles Muzzio 29
Rosa Muzzio 35
Mary Muzzio 3
Frank Biggni 18
Amelia Biggni 13

If this is your family then Rosa married Charles Muzzio not Joseph Muzzio.

She could have married both..Rosa is older than Charles so perhaps Joseph died and she married the younger brother as is Italian custom. Of course, this is just speculation but might fit since Amelia and Frank are listed as stepchildren and Mary is listed as his daughter..

I can link the census if you haven't seen it..

First time I've seen one of my family names listed.......

Caterina Rapetti married to Alessandro Grifoni.....I don't have a birthplace for either, but their children were born in the Marche, Pesaro e Urbino.......

Thanks for the replies. I believe that Charles was his middle name and Joseph his first name from some other documents that list him that way. The children who are listed as step-children to Muzzio kept their Biggini surname after Rosa remarried. Two documents I have on Rosa list her maiden name as Repethe and Ripetti. I have some 1890s and 1900s info that spell Bigini, Beggano, Beginno, Bigino, etc. I do not have anything on them prior to 1880 although they lived in NY in the 1860s. Also, any suggestions of how to tie them back to Italy? Thanks, Giovanni.

Did they naturalize and if so when? Have you pulled all US records on them?

I don't know if they naturalized. I have not pursued those records yet.

I might be able to tell you more about Joseph Biggini. He lived in Chicago having 3 sons who were my cousins. At least I think so. Now they died but I met them some years ago in Chicago and it was the first time. :)

Did your Joseph Biggini ever live in NY? Did he have brothers? Do you know his approximate birth & death years? Anything you can tell me may help. Thanks, John
