Separation of Marriage in the court of italy

Post by mangelini »

Hi,
my great grand parents filed for separation in the 1920's.

They were living in Santa Marina, Salina, Sicily. To get this done they may have went to Palermo or Messina as i have found no courts on the island. Where could i find seperation of marrriage documents, or who or what organisation should i contact?

thanks
Michael

Well, you should check with Palermo State Archive and/or Messina State Archive. Also separation was not a legal thing during those days, once a couple was married, it was for life, it didnt matter if someone would have leave the spouse or not, the spouse would have been married (in a wedlock) anyway, separation and divorce was after 1970's.
So I guess there is not filing of separation anywhere.
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo
