San Ambroggia or San Ambrogio?

Post by jantonelli81 »

Hi Everyone,

I am researching my great grandfather Donato Antonelli (b. 1888) from Italy. On his WWII registration card his place of birth was recorded as "San Ambroggia" but I cannot find a place that exists called this.

I have found San't Ambrigio, Milan, Italy. However, is therea place that exists called this?

My father thought he was from the large part of Italy...Abruzzi, but I do not think that this place is in Abruzzi. Unless he lived there later in life.

Thank you so much!

have you found him on a passenger list or do you have his WWI draft registration card which might have a town name on it? or possibly a naturalization paper for him, if he became a citizen?

for reference-related thread

Wow, Thanks maestra36

I still can't find the ship manifest. Having trouble locating this, it has been 2 years. However, the WWII draft card said (exact spelling" San Ambroggia Italy. However, I feel the person who was writing the cards, mis spelled it.

Thanks everyone, I guess this will put me in the write direction.
