My Great Grandfather American Family
My Great Grandfather American Family
Hi, I have another research for you. I'm looking for my great grandfather Scognamillo Giovanni born in Genoa in 1888 married to Sotgiu Vittoria. In 1924 he left Genoa to go to Usa where he lived with another woman called Calosso Tina. He probably died in Usa in December 1969.
I would like to know the town where he lived in Usa and if he had a family abroad.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon!
Many thanks

Not sure how we missed this the first time you posted. Sorry!
Are you absolutely certain of your facts (date, place)? I found this naturalization record which may or may not be your Giovanni:

Sorry, he wasn't a crew member:(
I have also checked all lists of passengers from Italy to Ellis Island.
I have known he was born in Alghero (Sassari) in 1888 and then he left Sardinia for Genoa.
Thank you so much!
The research must go on.......

Not all of our ancestors came through Ellis Island... There was also Boston, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Canada ports, etc.
How about this guy?

Re: My Great Grandfather American Family
Using the information on the naturalization index card in my previous message, you can order a copy of his full naturalization records from the National Archives. It would cost just $7.50 and take a few weeks; on those records you will find the name and date of birth of his wife and children, addresses, and information regarding when, where, and how (name of ship) he arrived in the US.
To place a document order, start here https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonl ... chives.gov and go ahead and create an account on the right. Next, click "Order Reproductions" and then "Immigration & Naturalization Records"
When completing the order form, you may encounter fields which demand you enter something even though you don't have the information available; just put X's or 9's in those fields and continue.

Very interesting!
Re: My Great Grandfather American Family
With his wife's name Calosso Tina who lived with him in New York is perhaps easy to find other information.
Many thanks!

Re: My Great Grandfather American Family
I have searched extensively for census and other records and could not find anything more.
On the 1930 US census, I found the page for 119 West 3rd Street (the WWII draft registration and the naturalization index card), but they were not living there at that time.
Also, "Tina" may have been the full name of Giovanni's wife, or it may have been a shortened nickname from one of many common Italian names: Agostina, Cristina, Modestina, Leontina, Martina, Melitina, Santina, Valentina...
