Marchese
Hello my last name is Marchese. My grandparents came from Italy they past away though. I speak pretty good Italian. I was just curious to learn more of the origins of my lastname. Like where most people with the last name Marchese come from and it's meaning. My family comes from Sicily, Calabria, and Milan. And I have family members scattered throughout Italy. However I don't really know a lot of information on my last name and I'm just curious. Thanks for everyone's help. xD
Re: Marchese
Hello and welcome to the forum-
the surname comes from a title of nobility
MARCHESE, MARCHESELLI, MARCHESINI, MARCHESOTTI, MARCHESONI, MARCHESANI: From the medieval noble title "Marchese" = Marquis

Re: Marchese
La famiglia Marchese è d'origine lombarda.
Si suddivide in due rami:
· il primo arriva in Sicilia al tempo dei re normanni ad opera di Riccardo - castellano di Taormina -;
· il secondo arriva a Napoli grazie a Raul, fratello del precedente.
Tra coloro che ebbero contatti con la Sicilia si ricordano:
· Saglimbene, signore della Scaletta alla fine del 1300;
· Giovanni, vescovo di Patti alla fine del 1400;
· Francesco, primo principe della Scaletta nel 1614.
The Marchese family is of Lombard origin.
It subdivided itself into two branches.
The first arrives in Sicily at the time of the Norman kings in the opera (work) of Riccardo-lord of the manor of Taormina
The second arrives in Naples, thanks to Raul, brother of the former.
(Between color, they themselves recall that they have contacted with Sicily): *
Saglimbene, lord of Scaletta until the end of the 13th century
Giovanni, bishop of Patti until the end of the 14th century
Francesco, first prince of Scaletta in 1614.
*not sure about the translation of this section. Hopefully if I have translated any other part incorrectly, my friend Livio on this forum will make the necessary corrections. Thanks in advance, Livio.

Re: Marchese
Thanx for all the help. I'm really interested in knowing my origins. From all I know my family is from Italy. But I know that Italians are mixed. So many different people from around the world came to Italy and mixed from time to time.
