Giannandrea in Belmonte Castello

Post by Morto »

Dear all
I'm looking for information about my great-grandfather Erasmo Giannandrea who emigrated to the UK from Belmonte Castello, near Casino, probably around 1880. He was born in 1858 or 1859, married Domenica Coppola in 1883 in Tynemouth. Domenica died in 1912, and Erasmo (then over 50 years old) married Mary Grace Risi (aged 20) in 1914. Mary Grace was daughter of Lorenzo Risi who has been very researched by others, but we have very little knowledge of Erasmo Giannandrea before he arrived here, and only census records and marriage certificates after.
Any tips or info that anyone could provide would be extremely welcome as I don't really know what I'm doing.
Thanks very much

You also might like doing the research yourself by going to the nearest LDS (Mormon) Family History Center.

They have available to rent and view the civil records of Belmonte Castello from 1818- 1865

There are photos of Belmonte Castello on my website if you haven't seen the town.

Thank you very much for the advice Tessa. I'll start with the Family History Center in London, and see where that leads me. They seem to have the key dates covered.

And thanks also Italy searcher for pointing me to the photos of Belmonte Castello. I haven't seen the town but hoping to visit next month.

I have the 1911 census for Erasmo Giannandrea. His first wife Domenica lists her birthplace but I can't locate it. 'Find my Past' interpret it as Odero. It looks more like Andemo to me. Neither appear to be actual places. Would anyone be able to suggest a reasonable reading of this. I have been scouring the map of Frosinone, though it could be somewhere completely different. I think I've attached the image, though I'm very new to the forum and don't speak Italian so apologies if I've made a mistake.
THanks

If they married in England maybe she wasn't from the Province of Frosinone. I live in Sora and it doesn't look familiar to me.
If you are visiting next month will you be driving to Belmonte? If so go tho the Anagrafe office (near the top of the town) and walk up to the church. You can drive but I don't recommend it.
