Toldo & Casagrande

Post by M_Toldo »

I am looking for information on parents of Antonio Toldo, born about 1879 in Codogne, Treviso, Italy. He married a Rosa Casagrande, in Codogne as well. They emigrated to Canada in 1913, but had children who stayed behind in Italy. They had 5 children in total, Augusta, Allesandro, Giovanni, Caterina, and Guistina. Augusta and Guistina stayed in Italy while the other 3 children moved to Canada. I am looking for any help in tracing their heritage any further back in time, if anyone knows the names of their parents, or information on Augusta and Guistina who stayed in Italy. The town of San Fior is also on immigration documents. Thank-you!

There are no film records at FHL for Codogne, Treviso, Italy so best bet is writing to the town of Codogne, Treviso, Italy
address
Comune Di Codogne'
Via Roma, 2

if this is the 1913 arrival manifest for Antonio:

Date of arrival 28 april 1913:

Antonio Toldo, age 34, married, place of birth and of last residence in Italy Codognè, leaving in Italy his wife Rosa Casagrande, he stated that he was going to Spokane - Washington to join his friend Enrico Maccon

then, I believe this must have been his military enlistment for the WW1:

from Ancestry.com:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918

State: California
Birth Date: 19 Jul 1879

Nearest relative: Rosa Toldo (wife) in Italy

If you can confirm these dates then this is the italian draft military record from the state archive of Treviso for Antonio:

Matricola ID 16506
Matricola 5018
Cognome Toldo
Nome Antonio
Nome Padre (father's name) Alessandro
Cognome Madre (mother's maiden name) Sartori
Nome madre (mother's name) Marina
Anno di nascita (Birth year) 1878
Mese di nascita (Month birth) luglio
Giorno di nascita (birth day) 19
Comune di nascita (place of birth) San Vendemiano
Mandamento nascita Conegliano
Provincia nascita Treviso
Professione (occupation) Contadino (farmer)

link to the record on the site of the State archive of Treviso:

http://www.archiviodistatotreviso.benic ... laID=16506" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I was also noticing that his male son was named Alessandro... this matches with his father's first name...

Just for references, this is a 1928 arrival manifest from Cherbourg (France) to Quebec (Canada) lising Antonio returning to his son Giovanni on 1464 Parent aenue - Windsor - Ontario. His wife Rosa Casagrande was still in Italy (Codognè)

Thank-you, all! I have found some of those records on Ancestry as well, and am trying to determine if the military records are pertinent, as no one currently knows of a reason for him to have been in California. They lived in Windsor, Ontario.
