John B Trabucco

Post by ericderrico »

Hi guys,

Was helping a friend look up their Italian family and got stuck. I'm looking up a John B Trabucco who was born about 1848 in Italy and immigrated about 1857 (all according to the 1900 census where he was living with wife Angela in Los Angeles).

I don't know who his parents were. Likely they immigrated with him, but Castle Gardens doesn't show any results prior to the mid 1880s for a Trabucco. What would even be the likely port in America an Italian would immigrate through in the 1850s?

Just curious if anyone could help me out. Thanks!

Hello ericderrico :-)

Took a look at the 1900 Census for John Trabucco and wife Angela - and 4 children...
He is a hack driver... born in Italy
Wife Angela born in Mexico
First Child Carmelita born in Arizona in about 1882...

Found this 1880 Census for a John Trobucco (misspellings are common in Censuses)
His age is about right - 30
He is a Hack Driver and was born in Italy
He was residing in Tucson, Arizona.

Image

If he was living in Arizona in 1880, there is a good chance that he arrived in US at the port of New Orleans. I'll check into that...
The year may not be 1857 - but may be a few years before or after. The census was notoriously inaccurate.

You might also try to get a copy of Carmelita's birth record from Arizona (Pima, Tucson area?). Might give the actual place of birth of parents. Or better yet, a copy of his marriage - IF he was married in Arizona. (or possibly he may have married in Mexico?)

Hi, Adelfio,
the John Trabucco on the ship's manifest, in 1870 he was resident with brother James,in:
1870 United States Federal Census
about John Trabucco Name: John Trabucco
Birth Year: abt 1846
Age in 1870: 24
Birthplace: Italy
Home in 1870: Memphis Ward 5, Shelby, Tennessee
Race: White
Gender: Male

I believe that in 1960 census, the family was:
1860 United States Federal Census
about Glovina Trabucco Name: Glovina Trabucco
Age in 1860: 40
Birth Year: abt 1820
Birthplace: Italy
Home in 1860: Memphis Ward 5, Shelby, Tennessee
Gender: Female
Post Office: Memphis
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members: Name Age
Glovina Trabucco 40 b. IT
Jno Trabucco 18 b.IT
Anna Trabucco 12 b. IT
Jacobi Trabucco 11 b. IT
Andrew Trabucco 3 b. in Tennessee
the first names are a bit different, but I believe that is the same family of ship's manifest... the family was resident in Tennessee also in 1880 census... so maybe is not the John B Trabucco that we are searching for...
just my suggestion,
regards,
suanj

Hey guys thanks for the results! Tessa78 I too found that same census record for John Trabucco, but thanks for the New Orleans tidbit. Keep me informed if you find anything with the passenger records. Arizona birth records don't turn up anything for a Trabucco and not sure where to look for marriage records at this time.

Adelfio, thanks for the help. I don't think it's the same Trabucco I'm looking for. There were a few John Trabucco's at this time I've found, one line goes to Tennessee, another to Mariposa California, and then the family I'm searching to Arizona/Los Angeles California. By the way, what port is this passenger record from? New Orleans?

Thanks guys!

In 1888, Los Angeles directory, was John Trabucco:
Los Angeles, California City Directories, 1888-90 about John Trabucco
Name: John Trabucco
Location 2: NE cor Cleveland and College
Occupation: hackman
Year: 1888
City: Los Angeles
State: CA

but it was also:

Los Angeles, California City Directories, 1888-90 about John Leo; Giuseppe Trabucco
Name: John Leo; Giuseppe Trabucco
Location 1: 1 Upper Main
Business Name: Leo & Trabucco
Occupation: liquor saloon
Year: 1888
City: Los Angeles
State: CA

This Giuseppe Trabucco was married also to a mexican woman: Eufracia Mendoza; in 1900 Eufracia is widowed and alone (but mother of 3 children, but 2 living); a daughter of Giuseppe and Eufracia Trabucco married in 1910:
Name: Edgar Leroy Hunt
Event: Marriage
Event Date: 03 Sep 1910
Event Place: , Los Angeles, California
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Estimated Birth Year:
Father: Samuel Hunt
Mother: Minnie Pearsall
Spouse: Juliette Selina Trabucco
Spouse's Gender: Female
Spouse's Estimated Birth Year:
Spouse's Father: Joseph Trabucco
Spouse's Mother: Eufracia Mendoze

Reference Number:
Film Number: 1033221
Digital Folder Number: 4540569
Image Number: 00585

seeming to me that this Giuseppe Trabucco could be related to John B Trabucco; maybe they was brothers... that is possible... Angela maiden name (wife of John B Trabucco) was Tridozo, maiden name changed in Smith ... I know not when....

so 2 Trabuccos in Los Angeles, married at 2 mexican women, seeming to me no a coincidence, for that I believe that Giuseppe and JB Trabucco was related ...
I searched abt the arrivals and not luck...
I searched in 1870 census and nothing came up, I believe that John B arrived around 1877 maybe and not 1857, and Giuseppe arrived after ...

Angelina Trabucco in 1910 was widowed, so John B died after 1900 census:

1910 United States Federal Census
about Angelina Trobrico Name: Angelina Trobrico

Household Members: Name Age
Angelina Trabucco 50
John Trabucco 24
Henertta Alea 26
Erenteni Alea 8

now to find the ship's manifest is a big problem and however, most probably, no help us for the John B Trabucco birthplace... I believe that he, most probably, coming from Piedmont region or Liguria region... maybe Liguria is more probable, but it is hard to say...

just my thought,

I believe that your ancestor coming from Liguria region or Piedmont region... but we have no possibility of to search; the civil records( in this regions) starting from 1866, and however need of to know more abt John ( birthdate, parent's names, especially mother maiden name, so we can understand better the birtharea); and because he died between 1900 and 1910 maybe you can search the death certificate... hoping of to find some helpful info;
ditto for death record of Giuseppe Trabucco( died in Los Angeles between 1890 and 1900) because most probably they coming from same birthplace....
