possible relatives in the Puglia region?

Post by mgcram »

My paternal grandparents are both from Puglia
My grandmother, Maria Sette came from Altamura to NY in the early 1900s reportedly with siblings because the parents had died. Just wondering if anyone might have any knowledge of the Sette family? Their names were Joseph, Michael, Rose and Lucia.
My grandfather, Vincenzo DeGennaro, came from Molfetta during the same time. His brothers were Sam, Nick and Santo.

Supposedly no one any longer has relatives in Italy but we are planning a trip to Puglia and would love to be able to find out more.

There is one "DeGennaro" listed in Molfetta...

The LDS Church Family History Center has available to rent and view, the civil registrations of Altamura, Bari, from 1809-1900. This includes birth, marriage and death records. Though the records are in Italian, you should be able to narrow down the years, and find the surname of Sette in the records.

You can also write directly to the comune of Altamura to request the birth record of Maria. Be sure to include whatever information you can to help identify her (date of birth, siblings, parents (Gaetano is named as father on the above manifests for Michele and Giuseppe - though not confirmed)

Address:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Piazza Municipio, 1

Write your request in Italian.
Send no money unless you are notified by the comune to do so. MOST do not charge for the records.
