Angelo Merlino and Felix Rosia

Post by Betty Heaton »

My great grandmother's second husband, Lorenzo Anselmo (his father was Antonio Anselmo)traveled to the US from possibly Torino in about 1890 in the company of Angelo Merlino and Felix Rosia. I am hoping that finding out something about the origins of the two men might lead to information about Lorenzo Anselmo's origins. After traveling to the US on the same ship the three men crossed the US together, Felix Rosia was a well known florist in the Seattle area; Angelo Merlino opened an import business in Seattle, "Merlino's Fine Foods". The three men maintained a friendship for many years. I am looking for any information about Angelo Merlino and Felix Rosia. Thank you...

I am the grand daughter of Laurence Anselmo's eldest daughter, Phyllis. We have always heard stories of the Anselmo/Rosia/Merlino connection, and assumed that Laurence traveled with both families from the Turion area when he was around 13 years old. The odd thing is, I have a friend who is Sr. Rosia's great grandson here in the Seattle area. Is there any information you could impart regarding history before the group sailed?

How surprised I was to see information about my great uncle Felix Rosaia. My mother and I embarked on a genealogy project over eight years ago. I never heard much about him since he was the second oldest of 11 children (two died while still young) and my grandmother (his sister) was the youngest. Yes, he and his brothers (in birth order: Palmiro, Felix, George, Sivio and Peter) were in the florist business in Seattle (Rosaia Brothers Floristss and Decorators, 3rd Avenue, Seattle, WA) and the other siblings settled in the San Francisco Bay Area region. Felix's wife was named Erminia (Emma) Rosaia and they had no children. I have been researching the correct spelling of "Vepeana" and information about that town in Italy, which is how I found this website.

The information is fascinating. I have not heard mention of Angelo Merlino but I do have pictures from the 1920s and if they were still friends, maybe he is in one of the group photos.

I think the correct spelling of "Vepeana" should be "Verpiana".
