Was Matteo, son of Alfonso, born in Italy? What year?crernst1111 wrote:Considering that, after reading the Italian tradition of first son named after paternal grandfather, the Alfonso I'm looking for has a son named Matteo, who was the oldest child, can I pretty much confirm that this is him? And would Alfonza and Alfransina be interchangable as far as first names go? I have a copy of a WWI draft card for Alfonso and her name is clearly Alfransina. THis is fantastic! Do you have more information on Matteo Dimora and Carmel (it looks like Scirex, but that doesn't sound italian at all....)
On the ship manifest at ellisisland.org Alfonsa is listed under the surname "Mallia" with "DiMora" written above it. (Line 11 of the manifest for the Italia, arriving NY on March 2, 1913) Italian women kept their maiden names, and traveled under that name...crernst1111 wrote:She arrived in NY 3-2-1913 aboard a ship called, appropriately, Italia, which departed from Palermo, on 2-14. If I had to make an educated guess, i would say Alfonzo was here already: she arrives in March, 9 months later she has her first son, Matteo (Matthew)...the timing seems right for that. I have no emigration information on Alfonso, though. There may be an older sister, Millie, but i don't have a birthday for her, so she could be the youngest as well. She is not on the 1930 census, so she's either not born, or married and moved out.
At this free site there are many manifests for Antoni(n)o Alesi, from Menfi...crernst1111 wrote:I just noticed it...i was looking up alfonso dimora at one point and i came across that, and it piqued my interest...that is definitely them them? Do you have any information regarding the second half of my query, Alesi and Bivona??
