Hi ............. I have Maria Theresa's birth certificate. Unfrotunately she did not marry in Italy Dominico (my 2xgr grandfather) and Maria Theresa married in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

I have her parents names but only Dominico's father's name.

The search goes on .............

If they married in the Catholic Church the records there MAY record where they were baptised.

His replacements in Rochester were all neighborhood people where I come from..... and the difference is in the spelling, TinaB is looking for Valente, and Frank was spelled Valenti, lucky for you TinaB ! It's an interesting story though, of mob rule in Rochester and how after Frank was exiled to Arizona the A and B team wars broke out.
interesting! cool thanks! also... the surnames vowels weren't (and still aren't) always a concrete thing. my family is DiLorenzo... however... some are DeLorenzo and some Lorenzo... and further more.. some are Lawrence... so it depends on who you're talking to...

Hi,

My mums maiden name is valente, my great grandad was born in monte cassino in italy and then walked to newcastle (UK) where he settled and started an ice cream business. My grandad carried the business on when my grt grandad died but this time in gosport on the southcoast of england.

I think my italian cousins still live in monte cassino or naples.

Hi Tina. I have already sent you a message on the Valente-Pacitti forum. My gr grandfather Silvestro Valente also owned an ice-cream shop, "Excelsior", in Dublin. I could not find Dominico Valente, but have found a Domonick Valente in the 1911 Ireland Census. I am trying to find out whether they are at all related. I have been told my gr grandfather came from an area somewhere between Naples and Rome, more probably closer to Naples. Might be a little bit of help to you.

My Family are from San Michele (migel) Cassino and they came to Bristol, UK in late 1800's, housing with many Italian Families along with Valente's. Most were Musicians.
I have found out on my search that most Italian Immigrants started off as Musicians and then got into the Ice Cream Business or Confectioner/Restaurater.

I also believe, Valente spelling is from the Cassino area, where Volante is around the Picinisco area. ( i am not certain, but that is what i have found in my search?)

Here are some Valente's in Bristol around late 1800's:
(some may have died young or been married and eventually moved on!)

Antonio 1884
Arturo
Giuseppe
Celestina (nee Tricone)
Antonio 1851
Delfino
Marta
Herminia
Umberto
Loreto
Silvia
Carmino
Pasquale
Gioacchino

For general information, below are details of the most common family names in Cassino

The most common five family names in Cassino:

313 Valente
311 Miele
284 Evangelista
281 Nardone
238 Pittiglio

Go to http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/lazio/cassino.html for further details of all the villages that make up the comune of Cassino including their distance from Cassino.

My experience of searching the Capaldi families that emigrated to UK and settled in Scotland is that they came from 3 areas, namely:

Cassino the frazione of San Michele
Picinisco the frazione of San Giuseppe
Filignano the frazione of Selvone

Please note that Valente is also the most popular name in Villa Latina

Please check my web site www.capaldi-clan.com for some further details of Capaldi. Valente and Pacitti names which all occur in my family names page.

Hi everyone .....
Just a quick update - I am no further on in my research :(
I have however received a 'passport' photo of my G-G-Grandfather Dominico Valente.
Unfortunately the passport was thrown away as 'back then' they did not see the significance of keeping it - now they regret it as it was the only document that may have given us his origin of birth. :x
I have however sent an email to Homeland security enquiring about the passport to see if they can help.
Will keep you all informed.

Dominico married Maria Teresa Capitano who was born in Rocco d'Evandro. They married in Belfast in 1887.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello Tina,

There was also a Mario Valente married in Belfast, 1887. If this is not another first name for Domenico, i would be quite certain it is a relative?

It might be worth ordering this cert?
