Vaccarezza family
Vaccarezza family
My grandfather, Domenico Vaccarezza was born in Genoa, Italy in 1883.
He moved to Australia when he was very young (12 years?). I have been told that he traveled on the ship 'Garibaldi', and maybe traveled via the U.S.A.
Can anybody help me in my search for information? So far my family only knows information about my grandfather after he arrived in Australia.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Rod Ritchie

Re: Vaccarezza family
Hello and Welcome!
I see a Family tree on Ancestry owned by "roddgld" - Is that yours?
It lists "Thomas Ritchie" born in Genoa, Italy, 1883 with a parent named "Vaccarezza... and parent's birthdate as 1874 I'm guessing that is probably wrong, since that would make the father 9 years old at the birth of his son...

Great finds, suanj!
Did you notice on the Ellis Island manifest that he is a sailor, and he has been in the US before as a sailor? Maybe more clues?

Re: Vaccarezza family
Thank you both very much!!
When I look at the ship 'inward' list the name does look very much like 'vaccarezza'.
Tessa, yes, I created the 'RoddQLD' family tree that you referred to.
Is it possible to get birth records?
Thank you again. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Rod Ritchie

Re: Vaccarezza family
The death record that you refer to above, Tessa, was of his son (also named Domenico Vaccarezza). The son died at 6 1/2 months as a result of scolds received when a neighbours tea pot spilled on him. Very sad.
In some early records it was spelled 'Vaccarrezza', but later records showed 'Vaccarezza'.
My grandfather married a lady named Isabella Patricia McGarry. An Italian man married a lady of Scottish parents! Later, once all the children had been born they changed their last name to Ritchie.
My grandfather was an industrious man and once owned an ice-cream factory, then became a grave digger (!!!), then owned a motor garage!! LOL
I thought that you might like some information about the man and his interesting life.
Kind regards
Rod

Re: Vaccarezza family
Some more information today:
Domenico had brothers/sisters by the name of:
Steraphina Vaccarezza
Jumbatista Vaccarezza
We are not sure of the correct spelling of the first names.
Town of birth confirmed as 'Loano'.
So far I haven't had any success with the 'birth certificate' links above.
Kind regards
