NEED HELP OBTAINING " DECLARATION OF INTENTION" DO

Post by Gladius1 »

We never new exactly where in Italy our grandfather Luigi Napolitano was born. We have just located his Certificate of Naturalization and with this document we hope to obtain his Declaration of Intention that will tell us where he was born and when he came to the U.S..
His Naturalization Certificatie is dated 24 June, 1925 and is from the Dept. of Labor. How exactly do we go about applying for the Declaration of Intention document?
Thanking you in advance.

Are any of these links helpful? I've found all of my ancestors citizenship papers at this site.

With the information given on the certificate, you should be able to easily obtain the rest of the document set (Declaration of Intent, Petition for Naturalization, Certificate of Arrival, and possibly others) either from the United States Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) or possibly from the National Archives (NARA). The first choice is more expensive and generally takes several months to complete; the latter is far less expensive and far quicker (weeks) but is mostly limited to naturalizations which took place in federal courts.

See my post in this thread for info on how to request documents from NARA and/or USCIS: http://italiangenealogy.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=18689/

If you go the USCIS route, you can skip the Index Search and go diretly to a Records Request. Using the "I have the C-File Number" selection, enter the letter "C" followed by the 7-digit certificate of naturalization number on the document already in your possession.
