Lomonaco family - Vicari, Sicily

Post by h2omom »

Searching in the Vicari area for Lomonaco family. Michael (Michele) in particular - probably born about 1865 to 1870.
Michele imm. to New Orleans about 1883, married Luciana Marsala, born in Corleone, daughter of Savatore and Maria Antonina Anzalone. Michael was living in Chicago by 1894. I believe he had a brother named Antonio and nephew Gaspare. Have gone through the Mormon microfilms for Vicari but did not find Michele, though did find other Lomonoco members in Vicari.
Other family names from Vicari are Guaggenti, LiRocchi (LiVecchi), Orlando, Balsano, Marsala, Anzalone, Geraci, and Pecoraro - I have births and marriages for these.

Could be but would have to be a cousin...according to the last surviving grandaughter who is now 96 years old, Michael died in a train accident but she doesn't know where - I found a death in Wisconson at the right time for Michael, circa 1898.

.

It seems that he was living in Chicago before the year 1894...

Thank you, so much, Laura. I had a birth date for Giovanni ( John on his WWII registration) but did not have the birth cert. and am pleased to note the birthplace for Michele as being Palermo. My husband's aunt is 96 and is the only surviving sibling of the generation - her recollection was that Michele was an Englishman :) I knew that was not right but had no proof.

Yes, Santo Cilona was the second marriage for Luciana, and then she had two more children with Santo. Joseph and Charles. I know that they moved to Hagar Township in Berrien Co, MI per the 1930 census.

The death cert. for Mary - that is my husband's grandmother. Phillip remarried a woman named Violet and I am in contact with the daughter from that marriage, Donna - my mother-in-law's halfsister.

Laura

I found a tree on Ancestry.com but do not have full access -Whelen/Gagliardi tree - it showed a census in 1900, Chicago , for Anthony Monacs (Monaco) with wife, Rosalie, and sons Aspar( Jasper) and Frank. Interesting because they live at 51 Milton Ave. - Luciana was at 52 Milton..sure makes me think family :)

I have found Naturalization papers for Michael Somanaco (Lomonaco), 1893, living at 46 Superior St., Chicago - the Chicago directory gives that address for Michael in 1896
Naturalization papers for Gasparo Lomonaco March 1899 - he was living at 45 N. Milton Ave. and the witness was L. Anzalone ( Luciana's Lomanaco mother's maiden name)
Seems too coincidental and leads me to think that Gaspare is related, which could make Anthony Monacs of the 1900 census Michele's father or brother.

Thank you again, Laura :)

I did not have birth records for the Cilona children.
I have the death copy for Maria A. Lomonaco and know that I am missing one child-did not find it when I was in Salt Lake going through the microfilms.

this is my first time posting so i hope this gets to you. I am the granddaughter oj John Monaco born 1890 in chicago--he had 4 children, my father was the youngest of the four and is the only surviving child at 83 years young, I had been looking for info on our family when I saw ur post. Mary argenti was my dad's aunt. She had two brothers- my grandfather john, and Dwight (which I have been wondering if that is the sam i see on records?)My father- Raymond Monaco does not remember much since he was the baby of the family, I did want to tell you that the WWll records you found were of my uncle John- the oldest son of john and catherine monaco. Please tell the surviving argenti that her cousin ray(my dad) is still alive.
