The Robinson Clan

Post by ibeirish »

Hey guys, I could use some help in finding some info on my relatives:
* Michael "John" Robinson was born about 1887 in Roscommon, Ireland.
* He died December 1959 in Yonkers, Westchester, New York.
* He was married to Lillian "Lillie" Dunn.
* She was born about 1889 in Seacombe, England but died suddenly in 1923 of Tuberculosis. No one really knows where she is buried in New York, but someone said to me possibly her being in Potters Field (she doesn't have a tombstone because the family couldn't afford it)?

The couple had 9 children:
-John Anthony
-Elizabeth (Sister Marie Di Lourdes)
-Tommy
-Ileene "Eileen"
-Cathrine "Kaye"
-Veronica "Vera"
-Lawrence
-Robert A.
-Frances

I never was able to learn about Lillian because she died so suddenly and most of the children have died. I would love to find out more about Lillian and her family, and how she met Michael, what kind of person she was, as well as where she is buried. I'd also like to find out more about Michael and his family, if he was from Roscommon, how he came to England to marry Lillian (if they were married in England) and how he came to America.

I'd also like any info that anyone can find about the children as well- I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much!,

Thank you Laura, I have seen both the Ellis Island and 1920 Census, but I have yet to find Lillian's final resting place. I'll have to look into the possible record you have found for me. So on the Ellis Island, it does say that her mother's name is Anne Jane, I can never figure out people's handwriting. Would you have an idea on how I could find out more information on the Dunns, like if Lillian had brothers and sisters? I do know that we have cousins over there, but I'm not sure of their names. Thank you for what you have found so far, anything helps =)

Ashley,

If you are familiar with the Family History Centers you might try to ask them to rent this microfilm:

Title Death certificates (Manhattan, New York), 1919-1948
Authors New York (New York). Department of Health (Main Author)

Note Location
Film
[Vol. 2-3], cert. no. 501, Theresa Cooper, Jan. 4, 1923 - cert. no. 1500, Frank Brahm, Jan. 15, 1923
FHL US/CAN Film 2030434

check by yourself and find the death certificate...

I actually never heard of the Family History Centers. What are these centers exactly? Is it possible if I could get this microfilm in the town closest to me, since the place of death was in Manhattan? Like do I just call the Family History Centers that's closest to me? Thank you so much for showing me this Laura.

You know, this is funny because my uncle found this same document and he says that the data matches up, according to him. So if this is the Michael Robinson that I am looking for, is it possible to find other records of him, like a proof of residency in Roscommon Irelanda , or even marriage record of some sort to Lillian Dunn of Seacombe England? Their first child, John Anthony, was born 15 Dec 1909, so they must have been married before that time (possibly). Thank you so much Carmine for your help! Every bit helps in learning about my family's past. =)

Can anyone help me in searching for records for my grandfather, Robert A. Robinson or any of his other siblings listed above, in the St. Joseph's Home for Children? I've seen the 1930 Census, but I was wondering if there's a record of him leaving the home?
