Surname Bonfils
Does anyone have a guess as to what the surname Bonfils might have been in Italy? I believe the name is French, however Mr. Bonfils was born in Italy.

Re: Surname Bonfils
Curiously, there are several "De Bonfils" listed in the current Italian telephone directory. See http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... s&dv=&l=en
According to this site, http://www.cognomiitaliani.org/cognomi/ ... 002one.htm, there are several Italian surnames which have the latin "Bonfilius" as their root. These include Bonfiglio and Bonfigli.

Re: Surname Bonfils
Additionally, according to http://surnames.behindthename.com/name/bonfils, Bonfils is french for "good son".
That would tie in nicely with Bonfiglio/Buonfiglio (good son), Bonfigli/Buonfigli (good sons), etc.
