Jellistine Stelliane

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Jellistine Stelliane

Post by andrea_luikart »

I discovered a pedigree chart and on the chart it stated that my ancestor, Jellistine Stelliane left Italy to the United States.

It says that she died in 1900 in Chicago, Illinios.

Any help finding information would be very helpful.

Thank you!

As I mentioned in your other thread, both of these names are so badly corrupted that it is difficult to imagine what they might really have been.

Is this a handwritten document that you have? Perhaps if you could post it (or part of it), we might read it different;y.

You can use a site like http://postimage.org to upload the image file and then paste the "Thumbnail for forums (1)" link into a your reply here.

I wish it was a handwritten document. The name is just typed in and all family charts I see have that name. I will have to do some more research and see if I can find her husband and if I can find him, that may give me more insight as to her true name. Thank you!

For what it's worth... the first name could be "Celestina" - :)
The Italian pronunciation of the "C" would sound like "ch"

Yes, her son is Michael Charles Cardio (although his name was changed from Carrione when he came to the USA). Her husband is Joseph Carrione but again, I assume his name is Guissepe since "J" isn't a letter in Italian.

Do tell more about Michael.

Any idea as to the year of birth? How old was he when he came to the US? Did he come with his mother, or separately before/after she arrived?

Do you have any additional information regarding Joseph/Giuseppe?

Pink67, that information on this Guistina Carione looks very good! I am going to find out more on this. Thank you!! The information found on Michael is correct. The last name of Michael was Cardio when he came to the USA but that information is all correct. Those are the names of his wife and children.

What I know about Michael is he was born in 1864 and left Italy for the USA around age 7 but family stories say it was without his parents. I have found some information about him but I am unaware as to where his parents died. I found one pedigree chart that says "Jellistine" passed away in Chicago but that is the first time I have heard she may have come to the USA. Thank you for your research!

johnnyonthespot, I don't know anything more about Michael's parents, Joseph and Jellistine. I just know they lived in Italy, possibly in the village of Calvello in the province of Potenza, Basilicata region of southern Italy (which is the information you found for me.)

I know Michael came to the USA but I can't find his naturalization records.

Then this may be a possible arrival for him.. this little boy was travelling with his brother? Marco/Mario Carrione 9 years old and apparently they were travelling alone, with no parents...

Carrione = Cirone
I did a search on Italian Genealogy on the Surnames you are searching and found previous info.

the post is back a few years ago on the Carrione surname is perhaps Cirone
http://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/t ... ne#p140640

It would be a good idea to PM the person that was doing the other searches on Carrione to compare notes, since the both of you are have ancestors from the same parish.

The immigration record on Giustina would be interesting to find or perhaps finding her and her husband in a census record.
