Unable to find emigration information

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Unable to find emigration information

Post by deniseb »

I'm gathering documents to apply for citizenship and have been successful although there are a few outstanding. I'm curious as to the date my GGF and GGM emigrated. I can't find anything under either name. They were married in CT in 1899 so it would have been before that year. There are many variations on the spelling and I've searched everywhere. Any thoughts? Domenico Iannantuoni was born in San Marco la Catola, Foggia, Apulia and Mariantonia Iamele was born in Celenze Valfortore, Foggia.

Did Domenico naturalize? If so, in what year? Later documents should show the date and manner of his arrival in the US.

When were Domenico and Mariantonia born?

Neither Domenico nor MariaAntonia naturalized. I'm waiting for the certificate of non-existence. Domenico was born in 1875 and MariaAntonia was born in 1884.

Domenico Iannantuoni was born in San Marco la Catola, Foggia, Apulia and Mariantonia Iamele was born in Celenze Valfortore, Foggia.

...

Domenico was born in 1875 and MariaAntonia was born in 1884.

Are you extremely confidant that this information is accurate? Since I can't find anything on either of them, I am suspicious especially considering your earlier comment, "many variations on the spelling".

Although emigration information isn't mandatory, it is now out of curiosity. I have Domenico's birth certificate from Italy so I know his spelling and birthdate is correct. For his wife, I haven't received her birth certificate yet from Italy. On other documents such as marriage and death and beneficiary, the birth dates are all the same.
thanks for all the help and suggestions so far!

Is there any chance the marriage info is incorrect?

Okay, I suppose you have the marriage certificate already...

I find some potential manifests, but they are for travel 1903 and thereabouts.

I searched in http://www.castlegarden.org/ using * as a wildcard:
FAMELE MARIANTO 16 F 25 Jul 1899 CELENZA-
and when I found it, by arrival date and ship name I searched the ship's manifest on ancestry.com;
the surname is mispelled in Famele and Jamele; really: Iamele...
regards,
