Anyone heard of the Uua surname?

Post by willperone »

For my grandmother's 80th birthday I am tracing her name back. I discovered she was named after her grandmother Angela Borea who was named after her grandmother Angela. I am having trouble figuring out Angela's last name though, on the records it looks like 'Uua' though on the world family name finder there is no such last name though 'Uva' is listed as a last name. The record I have has several places that shows the letter 'v' and it certainly doesn't look like that to me. Any help with this surname would be appreciated!
Her name is listed on the below 1857 marriage record of Alessandro Borea (Angela Uua is his mother) & Lorita Coppola:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In fact, there are 582 telephone listings in Italy for the Uva surname: http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... btt=1&om=0

You can see the distribution of the name here: http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/gen ... ognome=UVA

Having said that, I don't think the name in the document is any variation of Uva. Not sure what it says, but I don't think it is Uva.

Could possibly be Cua, a name which is present in small numbers in Italy.

What is the name of the Alessandro's birth comune?

I wouldn't say it's "Uva" either; it would look more something like "Nela". Still, "Uva" is present today in San Mango, but "Nela" is not...

It looks like Ulla for me, even if it's a Piedmont (north Italy) area lastname :?

There is an Italian family named "Bua" living in Wilmington, Delaware. If you look on your keyboard, the letter "B" is right next to "V" so it could be a typo and the name is actually "Bua".

i also read Ulla like pink67 wrote.
http://gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/genera.html < write left side above the name at cognome
and it shows most are to find in Piemonte.
