Pietro B Barbieri Genova
Pietro B Barbieri Genova
I'm trying to find the Italian family of Pietro B Barbieri born 10 Apr 1883 in Genova Italy. He came to America in 1899 and went straight to San Francisco and worked as a pasta maker. The immigration record stated he was living in Ruvenna at the time he left, however, family says he originally came from Genova. He married Jennie Simeoni b. 1893 (location unknown) in CA about 1913. Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you!
Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
Is this your Pietro?
1910 Census - living in San Francisco as a cook in a hotel
Immigration stated as 1899 (as you mentioned)
Clik once to enlarge and again to magnify...
Does the family tree for Pietro Barbieri on Ancestry belong to you? Owner listed as jmbarbieri
Death of Pietro and of his wife Jennie Simeoni are listed as 1948(him) and 1956(her) - both in Reno, Washoe, Nevada - but no reference documentation.
Also lists his birth as about 1878 in Genoa; and her birth in 1893 in California.

Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
On the 1920 Census Pietro and Jennie are living in San Jose City, Santa Clara at 125 San Pedro St. Pietro lists occupation as "laborer" at a Pasta Maker.
On Pietro's WWI Registration Card...
125 San Pedro St. --- DOB April 10, 1883 - however, only says "Italy" - no town
Working as a Pasta Maker for Mr. Garibaldi
On 1930 Census the family is living in Reno, Washoe, Nevada
Pietro is a pasta maker - macaroni factory
States that he immigrated in 1901 and indicates "pa" usually meaning he filed naturalization papers.
We'll keep looking for something that may have his place of birth...

Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
Thanks to all that responded. There are two Barbieri trees, JMBarbieri is not my tree, although I know who she is. I had the military record and the census records.
I had most everything from the US documents, except the fabulous marriage announcement with photo! What a treasure!
The immigration record is the same one that I found. It says Ruvena and I jumped to the conclusion that it was Ravenna Italy. I suppose it could be the place in Genova. I thought the two people above his name on that record might have been traveling with him since they were all going to Baxter St. Peter said he was going to see his uncle Cappelini. I looked on every name on Baxter St. in 1900 and couldn't find him or Cappelini! Or the two people listed above his name for that matter. That was tedious!
I've completed a request for a marriage license, hoping that will reveal more. I spent a lot of time researching Jennie Simeoni and came up empty! I've seen her mother's maiden name as Puchon and Pucheu. The marriage announcement of Betty Marie Vaughan surprised me because of the reference to Al's mother as Mrs. George Simmonetti. Not sure who George is either, unless Jennie remarried. I will have to investigate this further.
Thank you all so much for your help. I will continue to try and find out more about the family Pietro left behind in Italy...

I did this double check too and found out that the place of origin of one of the two man that were travelling with Pietro Barbieri was ROVEGNO.Addamo wrote:The immigration record is the same one that I found. I have just one doubt... Pietro Barbieri at the time of the 1899 arrival manifest stated that he was in the U.S. before, from 1881 to 1892 do you believe it was possible?

Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
Returning to the 1899 arrival manifest I have now more than one doubt that the person is "your" Pietro...
Pietro Barbieri stated that he was joining his uncle Cappellini Davide living on Baxter street...
This is (I believe) the 1910 census for Davide Cappellini, living in Manhattan next door to a Peater Barbieri....

Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
This is another possible arrival manifest:
16 may 1901
Barbieri Pietro, age 20, male, single, from Cicagna (Genoa Province - Liguria Region) to San Francisco to join his brother in law Leveroni Agostino
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0020
Ancestry.com has online the civil registrations for Cicagna town but unfortunately the 1883 year is missing for the births...
Do you have Pietro's death certificate? Do you know his parents's names?

Re: Pietro B Barbieri Genova
From this newspaper article it looks like that Pietro Barbieri obtained the american citizenship on August 1940:
from Ancestry.com:
Nevada State Journal - 15 august 1940:

Peter Barbieri died on 5 october 1946.
Nevada State Journal 8 october 1946
[img=http://s9.postimage.org/7ag1027rv/Barbieri_obit.jpg]
from the obit:
Surviving are his wife Mrs. Jennie Barbieri, of Reno; a son Alfred Barbiero of Reno; and two brothers, Lewis Barbieri of San Francisco and August Barbieri of Belmont, CA.
No doubt that Pietro was born in Cicagna now...
27 may 1914
Barbieri Agostino, age 24, male, single, place of birth and last residence in Italy Cicagna (Genoa Province - Liguria region), leaving in Cicagna his father Antonio, joining his brother Pietro living on 4th street in San Francisco.
