Giordano family in Sessa Cilento

Post by Charles Paolino »

I'm interested in tracing anyone named Giordano who came from Sessa Cilento, Salerno, Campania. My grandmother, Giordano Teresina, emigrated from there in 1911. Her sister, Angelina, and brother, Michele, also came to the United States from there -- presumably around the same time. I knew Angelina, but we lost track of Michele, who changed his name to Michael Jordan. He lived in the Paterson, New Jersey, area.

Hello and welcome!

This is quite the TALL order...

Let's start with Teresina... Is Giordano her maiden name? If yes, could you also give us her married name and her approx. date of birth?
Where in US did she settle after immigrating in about 1911?

There are a number of MICHELE GIORDANO in New Jersey in the censuses...
Do you have the name of his wife, if married; and his approx. date of birth?

In the meantime...
There is currently ONE listing for Giordano in the Italian Phone book in SESSA CILENTO -

Hi T. :D

If the Michele Giordano on the WWII card is the correct Michele, his naturalization papers are available on the Passaic County site. They can be saved as pdfs but I have no way to convert them to a format so an image hosting service will post. Birth date is the same as is occupation but place of birth differs. Papers show Valle (possibly Valle dell'Angelo). Wife Pierina born Albion NY 1899, son Edward born 12 Oct 1921.

Declaration also available for Domenico Paolino.

Hi Biff :-D

Great find! It would appear that it is the right Michele/Michael...

AND there are FIVE pages to the record, including the Certificate of Arrival :)

Changing the format to post on the forum would be nice, but it probably would be just as easy for the poster to use the link you provided to print out the records...
Unless, of course, someone comes up with an easy solution to posting it

It does appear that this is the right Michele Giordano. Teresina and Domenico were my grandparents, and I have a lot of documentation of their emigration. The reference to "Valle" on Michele's citizenship petition is a reference to Valle di Sessa Cilento, where the Paolino side of my family still lives. I'll see if I can use the date of death of Michele's son, Edward, to determine if there are any survivors.

Thank you so much for this help.
