Romano/Di Natale from Pietraperzia

Post by kahuka »

Hello! Could you all please help me...I am trying to research my family heritage on my mother's side.
I know that my great grandfather was named Giuseppe Di Natale (from Sicily) and his wife was Gaetana Bordonaro (from Pietraperzia)...the both moved to Boston in the early 1900s and were married here in Boston.....Giuseppe's father was Salvatore Di Natale and his mother was Maria Romano.....could someone please help me figure out what town Maria was from, and what her parents names were? I am desperately searching Ellis Island and familysearch and can't find what I'm looking for. Thank you so much. I have been believing all this time that my great grandparents on my mom's maternal side were 100% from Pietraperzia but I can not find evidence to back this up. Grazie mille!

ciao suanj! grazie per l'aiuto.....I'm so happy to see these names because I definitely think this is my family : )
so does this suggest that the Romanos lived in Pietraperzia and then moved to Misilmeri? grazie di cuore!

Hi Marty thanks for the precisation; you are right!
I know not if is a error, however Maria Calogera Romano, wife of Salvatore Di Natale, on the ship's manifest resulting born in Pietraperzia, so seemed strange to me that the parents and siblings was born in Misilmeri... maybe the ship's manifest of her parents, it is no abt the right family; my idea is that because Salvatore di Natale joining at Rosario Romano brother in law and resident in Boston, and because also Giuseppe Romano joining at Rosario Romano son in Boston, so I believed that all matching ... but maybe I am wrong...
maybe was more Rosario Romano in Boston!
All the best,
suanj

well just for to clarify;
it was so many Romanos emigrated in Boston, Mass. ! that is hard to find the right Romanos!

the Romanos of Misilmeri cannot be the right parents of Maria Calogera DI NATALE nee ROMANO born in Pietraperzia;

in Salvatore and Maria Calogera arrival 1917 they joining at Rosario Romano brother of Maria Calogera, and the address of Rosario was 6.. or 60 or... (?) Prince st Boston
I found another Rosario Romano in Boston; (the previous born in 1878 in Misilmeri and cannot be the right brother of Maria Calogera); this other Rosario was born around 1868 and in 1910 census the address was 348 Princeton st and maybe this is right, because just 2 Rosario Romanos was in Boston, one born in Misilmeri( I found also the arrival) and it is not the right Rosario, and this other Rosario born around 1868:

1910 United States Federal Census about Rosario Romano
Name: Rosario Romano
Age in 1910: 42
Birth Year: 1868
Birthplace: Italy
Home in 1910: Boston Ward 1, Suffolk, Massachusetts
Race: White
Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1886
Relation to Head of House: Head
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Rose Romano
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Neighbors: View others on page

Household Members: Name Age
Rosario Romano
42
Rose Romano
48 (nee Amabile...)
Frank Romano
19
Josephine Romano
10
Mary Romano
7
Carmine Botti
39
Joseph Piligrino
23
Frank P Napoli
26
Tony Lamana
23

so maybe this could be the right Rosario.... who know? I cannot be sure abt that...
maybe can be helpful to find the arrival, naturalization and marriage of this Rosario for to know abt birthplace and parent's names...
but the main advice, Marty given you: to search in Pietraperzia civil records abt Maria Calogera Romano, so you will know all..

however by ship's manifest the birthplace of Salvatore Di Natale and wife and children was Pietraperzia... if you wish you can search by yourself in Pietraperzia civil records by LDS microfilms:
Registri dello stato civile di Pietraperzia (Caltanissetta), 1820-1910
Civil registration of births, banns, marriages, deaths, citizenship records, supplemental documents from Pietraperzia, Caltanissetta, Italy. Since 1927 Pietraperzia has been part of Enna province. Text in Italian. Some years may be missing or out of order.
