Looking for grandfather's birth certificate- Piazza Armerina

Post by bcat66 »

Hello,
Wondering if anyone can help me find my Grandfather's birth records:

Name: Mariano Cataraso
Born: January, 9, 1900 ( according to US Naturalization Records)
Place: Piazza Armerina, Sicily

Parents: Gaetano Cataraso and Francesca Cantella

I hope someone can help me...
Many Thanks,
Barbara Cataraso

Welcome to the website if your sure he came from there.
You can try the Family History Library for films 1820-1910 of Civil registration of births, deaths, marriages, banns, citizenship records, supplemental documents from Piazza Armerina, Caltanissetta, Italy. Since 1927 Piazza Armerina has been part of Enna province. Text in Italian.

Hi Marty
Thank you so much for your response. On the ships manifesto papers it states that his last known address was Puazza but I cannot find such a place and therefore believe it to be Piazza as things were obviously misspelled. Would that be the right assumption?

The name on Ellis island search is Mariano Catarasa son of Gaetano Catarasa and Francesca Cantella coming over from Piazza Armerina leaving his brother-law Librio Cantella from Piazza Armerina also pg#2 says Mariano born in Piazza

Hi Marty,

Many thanks again! So he was born in Piazza as we thought... Will check the records from the National Archives as you suggested. Very exciting... Any chance you can help with my grandparents Andrea Acquaviva born around 1883 somewhere in Sicily and Vincenza Montaperto born in 1893 coming from Miovia (according to ship manifest)?

Marty!
Wow thank you so much for all your help. This is getting exciting. Now we know to look for Nicosia. Do they have the films for that particular town too?

My family is from this town. I will have my cousin look at the records from 1900 at the Family History Center.

They lived in Dumont, New Jersey but I assume they met and married in New York.
Will check out your new link now.

Hi Marty,
Andrea Acquaviva died in 1931, so cannot be him.
Thanks...
