The Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicata
The Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicata
I am seeking information on the lineage of the Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicata. I am a grandson of Gerardo Toce (born September 19, 1874 in C.P.) and Donata [maiden name?]. They emigrated to the United States in 1897. I am curious to know when they married, and most importatnly who their ancestors were. According to some family notes, my grandfather was the son of Antonio (1847-78) and Maria [maiden name?] (uncertain of birth and death dates). I don't know anything about my grandmother or her family, other than that her mother is rumoured to have also been a Toce. Were my grandparents perhaps my grandparents were cousins?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

I believe the bride's surname is Ierardi (3 entries in the Italian White Pages for Corleto Perticara). The surname Icrardi does not exist.
Re: The Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicat
I have never heard this surname mentioned before. Apparently, the rumor of Donata's mother being a Toce was correct.
Thank you for this information.

Toce has 19 entries in the white pages for Corleto Perticara. It is possible that your ancestors where distant cousins
Re: The Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicat
Is there any information about the parents of Antonio, Maria, Domenico, or Carmina?

The writing on the marriage certificate looks more like Jerardi or Gerardi to me. Is this a possibility?liviomoreno wrote:I believe the bride's surname is Ierardi (3 entries in the Italian White Pages for Corleto Perticara). The surname Icrardi does not exist.

Re: The Toce family of Corleto Perticara, Potenza, Basilicat
My first thought was Gerardi but the "G" in the name Gerardo Toce and in the name Giovanni (4th line from above) are completely different.
And the name Jerardi does not exists (today) in the Italian White Pages for Corleto Perticara. See http://www.paginebianche.it/ricerca?l=e ... +Perticara
In any case it is possible that in the past the name was Jerardi. The capital I and J are very similar in handwriting: http://script.byu.edu/italian1/en/alphabet.aspx#I

Surname is definitely IERARDI as Livio first stated
Here is her birth record -- #179
Born 16 November 1875
Declared by Teresa Gerardi, 59, midwife
Father Domenico Egidio Ierardi, ox driver
Mother Carmela Toce, farmer
Thank you very much! This will greatly help my study of genealogy. I don't know what sources Livio and Tessa use, but is it possible to find any information about her parents, such as their birth years and their parents.
Thanks again!
