Can Anyone Help with Franzone or Guarino

Post by Footnotes »

I am trying to locate information on my grandparents who came from Sicily. His name was Emmanuele Franzone (maybe Emanuele) born Nov. 15, 1865 and said he was from Palermo (city or province??). He came to New York City and migrated to Chicago (both dates unknown). In New York City he married Vincenza Guarino who was born Aug. 2, 1868 and was from Termini Imerese in Sicily.

I have not been able to find anything on Ellis Island. I did find a very close match in the 1930 census for Cook County, IL for Emmanuele Franzone listed as born about 1866. Other than that I have spent many hours.

What year is listed on the 1930 census as the year of immigration to the US?

Donna,

I found the reference online and when I tried to expand the information it took me to a site that wanted me to join for About $100. I am not ready to do that yet.

Here is the 1930 Census for the Franzone family

Immigration for him...1890 (would need to locate the manifest through Ancestry.com which I can try to do later this evening... but if someone else can find it and post... go for it!)

for her...1892 Maybe a record can be found in the Ellis Island database... (records are from 1892-1924)

Mary and Sammy born in the USA...

Would this be the correct family?

Dear Footnotes,

You have to remember that people like you and me are the one transcribing the documents like the Census and there always can be mistakes especially in spelling of names. The other is that the birth years are always off by a year or two.

Any way, here is the information off from the 1920 Census. I think this is your family.

Emanuele, age 53, born in Italy
Virginia, age 52, born in Italy (Virginia could be for Vincenza)
Rose, age 24,
Emanuele, age 21,
Mamie, age 18
Mildred, age 16
Mary, age 14
Sam, age 8

All the children were born in Illinois. Emanuele Sr. came to the USA in 1889 and was Naturalized by 1896.

Here is the information from the census, maybe someone can post it for me. (Thank you)

Name: Emanuele Franzone
Age: 53 years
Estimated birth year: abt 1867
Birthplace: Italy
Race: White
Home in 1920: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Roll: T625_357
Page: 9A
ED: 2267
Image: 105

I hope this is of some help to you.

Trish and MFJP,

Bingo!, You folks are good. I am just a novice at this. Thank you so much. Yes it is the correct family. The 1920 census lists my all my uncles and aunts. The 1930 census shows my father (Sammy who was really named Salvatore, but called Sammy) still at home as an 18 year old. Also on the 1930 census Frank Restivo listed just above the Franzone Family is an uncle by marriage who lived at the same address. This is a great start. Thank you so much. I am so elated.

Hi All,

Need help with Ancestry with NY Passengers for Vincenza Guarino.

The Manifest states the person is a female. Also, in my opinion, states the age is 23 and not 13.

This would all match up with a Vincenza Guarino.

I need another opinion.

One of my great-grandfathers came in as Angela DiTorio and his real name was Angelo DiIorio. So this is why I always stress to look at every manifest.

Thanks
Trish
