Suanj,

Here is the letter I have written. Please tell me if this is OK...

Egregi Signori:

Thanks,
Vikki

Re: Info from VARNI passport?

Wow, so many years have gone by and nothing has changed. I am still at a loss trying to find information about my great grandfather, Carlo Varni. I am hoping, with the advancement of digital records, that some day soon I will find what I am looking for. Until then, I still appreciate any help or insight from anyone willing to offer.

By the way, I did write to the Torino offices back in 2003 for information. I never received a reply back from them...

Funny, I found that too a few minutes ago. Problem is what do I do with it? No parents are listed....

Just an educated guess on my part based on what's been previously posted but I believe that the reason that the parents' names were missing is because they were listed as "ignoti" or unknown, and Carlo was a foundling. My great grandmother whose surname was Esposito was also a foundling, and locating additional info on her has proved a challenge.

So what you are saying is that there really is no place to go from here because they didn't keep records for foundlings?

Hello Victoria :-)

Why not rent the LDS film that is referenced in Biff's post and view the birth record yourself? Then you can see what is actually listed on the atto. If he was abandoned, you may find the name of a wetnurse to whom he was given for care. Maybe you will find a "connection."
