how to find certificates if unsure of town

How and to which (town hall, church) can I ask if they have birth certificates. How can I find a marriage certificate if I don't know the town?

Thank you so much for your help- it's both useful and fascinating! I saw the ship manifest, but didn't understand to read Baragiano in Potenza . . . I guess it makes sense that Battista (or Giov. Battista) was really Giambattista.

Marty, thank you for finding the certificates. These do seem to be the ones I'm looking for, as the names and dates are close. Now we've got the images of Giambattista's birth cert and his marriage to Carmela. Carmela looks to be Carmela Cristiano born in Bella, Potenza to Vito Antonio Cristiano and Cristiano Rita Tomasulo, on Aug 27 1883 (we thought) or 1882, if she was 18 in 1900. Do I need to find more on her first before trying the Commune?

Should I mail each commune (or email): Bella, Avigliano, and Baragiano with the request letters in Italian that Marty gave in another thread? Is it necessary to find and add a printed microfiche record from the Family History (I guess using the certificate info below that Marty found)? And state I'm looking for certificate copies to use for dual citizenship?

Oh- and is emailing/ or mailing enough, or would going in person to Potenza ever be necessary?

I would send a copy of the actual record you found to show them you what your looking for and tell them you need a birth extract or marriage extract for Italian citzenship of the records you have enclosed

Hello,

I will then locate the Family History films to rent them at a location near me to print. I think I found the right ones to order for GBP's birth (1878) and marriage to CP (1900), but nothing for Carmela's birth, no Bella record after 1860.

For Carmela's birth, is it worth my sending the letter request with all of the info I have, without a record copy? Or should I try looking for more records, maybe something from Baragiano since that is where they lived and met?

You have the marriage and birth record from ancestry.com for 1878 March 27th Giambattista Pellico and the marriage 1900 June 10th to Carmela Cristiano you can send those records that will be enough
You can send one letter to Avigliano with the copy of his birth and the marriage record to Bella cause it shows Carmela was born in Bella asking for there birth extracts for citzenship
