Looking for info on both Mariano Guarrera, born in 1890, in Giarre or Macchia, Sicily and his wife, Guiseppia (Josephine)La Spina as well as their families. He immigrated to Gloucester County, New Jersey around 1908.

Suanj,

Thanks for looking but I don't think this is the same Guiseppa. My Guiseppa, according to US Census records was born around 1901 and didn't emigrate until 1923 when she married.

Suanj,

I already found this record. However, I didn't realize there was a reverse side of it. I made a copy of the wrong photo. Thanks for that info.

According to his passport, Mariano was naturalized in Fort Niagra, NY. Do you already have this info?- www.familysearch.org

Possible passenger list info for Mariano- his passport says he arrived on or about April 26, 1908, so he may have remembered the year incorrectly.

First Name: Mariano
Last Name: Guaniera
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Giane, Catania
Date of Arrival: Apr 22, 1909
Age at Arrival: 19y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Ancona
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Manifest Line Number: 0010

His destination was to an uncle, Salvatore ? at 2111 First Ave in NY. Possibly someone could upload the image for you to the forum.

The Giuseppina La Spina who arrived in 1923 was also on the record of Aliens who were held were special inquiry. Page 0842 on her passenger manifest on www.ellisislandrecords.org

The cause of her detention looks like 2E, but I don't know what that means. I was hoping there would be some kind of info about a husband on this page, but there isn't.

This link is about markings on manifests, but I don't see 2E listed among them.

Erudita 74,

Mariano was naturlaized on 8 Feb 1939 in Philadelphia. I found his date of death in the NJ Death and Burials Index. I'm checking with my friend about the names of his children. I know one is Anna, possibly Sebastiana. I know he traveled with his children from Italy to the US on 10 May 1934. He was a widower by then. I also noticed the detention sheet on Guiseppina. I'll check out the 26 Apr 1908 sailing.
I believe you are the one who sent me a message from a friend regarding the Quattrocchi family in Zafferana Etnea. Thanks if it was you. She was a wealth of information and taught me how to extract from the Latin church records.

If he was naturalized in Phillie, then the person whose passport was posted by suanj may not be the right person, as that person seems to have been in Fort Niagara NY, which would coincide with the Western NY naturalization for the person I found.
