Surname Cannezzone / Canezzone

Post by MAW »

I am searching for any and all incidences of the unusual Italian surname Cannezzone or Canezzone for any time period in the regions of Calabria, or Sicily, or anywhere in Italy.

I have not been able to find this surname in internet searches.

Can anyone advise on a local / national source to search?

The following link has some Cannizzone from Reggio Calabria. Possibly somehow connected to your ancestry. I extracted some of them below. You'll have to check the list to see if I missed any.

Marriages for the Parish of S. Filippo and Giacomo-

1740-04-27 Cannizzone, Matteo of deceased Giuseppe Cannizzone marriage on 1740-04-27 to
Sirti, Caterina

1742-06-19 Catizone, Antonio, groom, Cannizone, Lavinia, bride, He was of deceased Francesco Catizone and Puerio, Caterina. She was the daughter of Cannizone, Cesare and
Cirino, Giuseppa.

1818-09-12 Tripepi, Gio. Battista and Caravaglio, Elisabetta. Witnesses Pellicanò, Pietro and Cannizzone, Aloisio.

Also there is a list of baptisms for the parish of San Sebastiano-

I also see reference to the surname Cannizzoni in the City of Grottaglia in Taranto Province in the Puglia region of Italy.

If you do a google search with the following,

la famiglia cannizzone in reggio calabria

you will see all kinds of websites and links that have the surname Cannizzone or Cannizzoni. It seems that there was a noble family with that surname in Reggio Calabria.

I realize that the websites will be in Italian, and that you may not be able to read them. If you see a short section that you need to translate, my suggestion is that you either cut and paste that section onto the forum for help from one of the translators here-or that you cut and paste the section into google translator. Although google translator is far from being 100% accurate, it may at least help you to get the gist of what is written in Italian.
