Michele Perrone - Comune Told Me No Birth Record

Hello,

My father and I are trying to find a birth certificate for my great grandfather - Michele Perrone. I have his death record so I know his exact birth date (October 29th, 1894) and parents names from that. The census' only say "Italy" for place of birth and the immigration manifest looks as if it says birth place of Apricena, but the handwriting is impossible to make out clearly. (It also says last residence of Apricena but I understand that doesn't mean birth place).

I wrote to the comune of Apricena and they said that they have no record of anyone by that name with the 4 year period that they checked (1892-1896).

I am wondering what other ways I can find out his town of birth? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post that manifest for us to view, or give us the ship name and date so we can check it?

As for the death record information on your GGF... we have found that death records can be quite inaccurate since the information is given by survivors who may not have accurate knowledge

Can you tell us where he lived in the US?
His spouse's name? Names of children?
Maybe we can find more US records to help in the search?

Is this him in the Social Security index? If so, you can order his application for his social security card which would have his town of birth on it.

Do you have his World War I draft registration card? That may have his town of birth in Italy on it or, did he naturalize, as naturalization papers may have a town of birth on it.

I am born in Apricena... and in effects the surname Perrone is a surname of Apricena.. I remember I Perrone bakery in the 1960s...
most probably the Commune no found the birth record because some data are incorrect..
