Surname BELLINO

Post by PMM »

I have been doing some research on my family and have come to a stop when researching my great grandmother Mary Bellino. I recently recieved a copy of her death cert. and her parents names were never listed( I was depending on that info to help me!). DOB 7/14/1886( poss. 1887) in Italy ( what part of Italy unknown) and her name on the cert. was listed as Meri Motta but was called Mary. A family member told me she came over to the USA as an orphan at the age of 14( maybe that's why her parents weren't listed) and that she married my ggrandfather, Demetrio Vincent Motta on the boat( on the manifest it says he was single when he came over in 1901). She sup. came over in 1910. Her date of death was 5/2/1974 in Exeter, Pa( Luzerne County). Any help is greatly appreciated:)Thanks

Thanks Marty. My grandfather( Joseph) was actually born in Kansas(1911) and his sister(Lucy) was born in OK. I don't know if my ggrandparents were married in PA( can't find any records) or in KS( don't know where to look). I do have a copy of the 1940 census as well.

I have been trying to find out where my ggrandparents lived in 1920 forever!!( or at least it seems that way). The last name was spelled wrong( Motta not Motto) and my grandfather( Joe) was the only sibling whose name is spelled correctly( Lucy, Dora and Sabina). Thanks so much for finding this!! Even the immigration year for Maria was wrong( on 1930 census).

Bellino is very common in western Piedmont (Torino and Cuneo provinces)
There are some Bellino on my own family but the ones who emigrated went to Argentina, so I can't help you there.
If I remember right in one of your former posts you said that your Motta ancestors came from Alessandria?

Hi.
Bellino is present also in Canavese area (north-western part of the Province of Turin, i.e N-W of N.W. of Piemonte region). There still are families with this surname in the village of Locana (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locana).
Hope this helps.

Locana is a mountain village, made of almost 100 hamlets (group of houses), often located a few miles far from the center of the village: today, most of those hamlets are deserted, but in the past there was a church or at least a chapel in many of them (see here: http://www.comune.locana.to.it/?pubblica=chiese ).
Anyway, since I suppose your question was aimed to find the place where church acts are kept, what you have to refer is the only parish church existing in Locana:

Parrocchia S. Pietro in Vincoli
Via San Meinerio, 6 - 10080 Locana (TO)

Let me know if you have further questions.
Ciao,
Maurizio

I have been trying to find my grandmothers name Maria Bellino on the Ellis Island site( passenger list) and haven't had any luck. She came to the USA in 1908 and she wasn't married at that time. Is it possible that all passengers weren't accounted for? Any help is appreciated. Thanks :D
